My husband is the oldest of seven children. His two youngest sisters are still living at home, where Mom is their full-time teacher. Two of his siblings are in college, one is in the workforce, and one is a stay-at-home mother. My in-laws also run a home business, so their lives are busy. When we go back to visit, we can always expect to be called on to run at least one errand. Over Thanksgiving, we were given the job of taking one of the family’s violins to the repair shop.
While we were there, we couldn’t help but try out a few instruments. My husband grew up playing violin but gave it up in middle school to learn banjo and guitar. But he can still pick up a fiddle and play beautifully. (Somehow that just isn’t fair.)
We came across a beautiful violin from the 1700s, and I videoed Mr. Handsome playing “Amazing Grace” (video below).

Your husband is a very talented musician. Amazing Grace is one of my favorite songs. Is he a piano player also? Do you enjoy singing or playing any musical instruments?

Thank you! He learned piano briefly as a young child, but he says he doesn't remember much. I'll have to ask him to play for me!
I took violin lessons for a few years in middle school, and I am currently trying to learn mandolin.
I'm blessed to have you as a reader. 🙂

"Little House on the Prairie" was my favorite show as a child, so I'm thrilled to hear that!

Hi Jera,
I would love to share that with you! When I accepted Jesus, I was about eight years old. We were at a family Bible conference, and I was sitting in on a kids' service. Someone gave an invitation, and I went up. I still remember the dress I was wearing that day! 🙂
Where were you when you became a Christian?

Despite the fact that you and I have completely different believe systems, I love your blog (and the Duggar family blog). I enjoy learning about different cultures and you provide an opportunity to learn more about a sub-sect of the American population. I have been appalled by some of the comments you have received on your articles and cannot believe people would take time to write on your blog to simply criticize you on everything from your home décor to what you call your husband to when you wrap your Christmas gifts. The fact you post such comments says a great deal about you. Please know there are readers (including those like me who disagree with you on many areas) who appreciate your willingness to share your life and wish you nothing but the best. THANK YOU!!!!!!

Thank you for your sweet, encouraging comment! I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying my blog.
Wishing you a blessed holiday season. 🙂

Hi Ellie,
I want to learn how to play guitar… And was wondering how you learned, and what you would recommend?
[email protected]
Hi there!
I don't play guitar, but my husband does. He took a few lessons but mostly learned by watching YouTube tutorials. His favorite are those from Tony Rice, although he does mostly bluegrass.
Hope this helps!

Hi, Ellie.
I was just wondering.
Where did you go to college?
[email protected]
Hi there!
I went to a large state school. I was blessed to live in a house with a few dozen other Christan girls, so even though the university had 40,000 undergrad students, that close-knit community made the campus feel small.

Local? Out of state?

In-state. Thankfully, my school was only 2.5 hours from my hometown (although often that seemed too far).
