Over Labor Day weekend, Mr. Handsome and I (along with his parents and three youngest sisters) attended an adventure-themed wedding shower for my brother and his fiance. My mom and the maid of honor spent many hours planning this family event.
For lunch, guests feasted on a smorgasbord of Middle Eastern food (pita bread, humus, baba ghanoush, beef schawarma, saffron chicken, salad, and rice. It was different, but it turned out to be delicious!

Mr. Handsome decided to add a little bit of comic relief to the party. Outside the room where it was held, he created this display…

What is the "etiquette 911" envelope on the table?
[email protected]
Etiquette 911 was a game we played at our tables where we read different scenarios that could come up at a wedding and came up with clever ways to deal with them. It was a good way to get people talking and laughing!

When I was a little kid, I saw the episode of "I Love Lucy" where they had a baby shower. Being little, I couldn't figure out why people needed to come over to give someone "a shower." I thought adults were quite capable of getting clean on their own. I watched the whole episode but never once did they go into the bathroom. So I hope your "shower" was more successful. Looks like Mr. Handsome was all ready for it. 😉

Haha! That would definitely be a confusing concept for a young kid to grasp.

We forget how kids take things literally! When I was little, I heard the school psychologist tell my mother that I was gifted. I was so excited – I thought I was going to get presents, and it wasn't even Christmas! All I got instead was moved up a grade. 🙁

Lol! 🙂

Haha! I love the soap and towel.

I really like Mr. Handsome's sense of humor. It reminds me so much of my husband!

Haha! Ive really come to appreciate my husband's sense of humor. It sure helps make tense/uncomfortable situations more comfortable. I guess our husbands would get along well! 🙂

Looks like a terrific shower. Lots of planning and thought went into putting it together. I am sure the Bride and Groom loved it and that the guest also really enjoyed it.

Thanks, Shela. It was a great event!

The food sounds amazing.

It was! Have you ever tried Middle Eastern food?
Ellie

Yes! I love it. Hummus and falafel are my favorites.

I went to a Persian (Iranian) wedding and the food was fantastic! Not to mention the beautiful ceremony that took place first. We should never discount world cultures or religions that are different than ours. There are some fantastic beliefs and traditions in this world!

That's neat! I don't think I've ever tasted Persian food, but I would love to!
I really like Thai food, and I've been meaning to take my husband out to a Thai restaurant. I agree, it's fun to experience different cultures.

The bride gave me some Iranian/Persian recipes. Heavy on the herbs and especially mint, which I leave out (I don't like mint in anything; it upsets my stomach). Also the desserts often use rosewater. You can research recipes online. Try "My Persian Kitchen." You might find something you like. The art of cooking rice the Persian way takes practice, and it has cultural significance.

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to check those recipes out. I'm sure it would take quite a bit of trial and error, but it would be fun to try.

Middle Eastern food is fairly common to find here in Canada in most major cities. There are great delis, and tiny, unassuming hole-in-the-wall middle eastern grocery stores. Just came across one near my house that had great olives, pita, + the freshest homemade feta cheese.
Middle Eastern food does not seem to be such a different concept here, I guess, as we have such an influx of many nationalities. Very healthy food though!! I love getting a good shawarma (similar to a pita wrap, with rotisserie meat and veggies)

May I ask what province you live in? I was born in Alberta and moved to the United States when I was young.

That was interesting! What did you give as a shower gift?
[email protected]
Glad you liked the post! We gave them some towels. As a wedding present, Mr Handsome painted a beach located near the spot where the wedding is.

Did they already get married? Did you get the gift idea of towels off a registry?
[email protected]
Not yet. 🙂 Yep, the towels were on their registry.

That "shower time" sign is sad. It needs more colors, better handwriting, and some glitter or something. He could have painted a sign.

It was a last minute thing, only meant to be a joke. 🙂

Hi Ellie.
Any tips in starting a blog? I would love to start one, but would like some info. From someone who has some knowledge in this area. Thanks!

Hi there,
Do you have a topic in mind? Blogger is a great hosting site that's easy to use. Your viewership may start off slow, but I encourage you to keep writing, even if it seems like no one's reading. When I first started blogging back in 2009, it took several months before I had any comments. But don't give up. 🙂
