Happy Friday! Sorry for the delay in posting over the past week. Mr. Handsome and I were on a jam-packed vacation, which included my brother’s wedding at a seaside chapel in Lincoln City, Oregon; a three-day drive through the Redwood Forest and along the California coast; and 24 hours in San Francisco. (If you follow my Facebook page, you have probably seen a few pictures that I posted during our trip.)
We had a blast! Those of you who live on the West Coast are truly blessed to be surround by such breathtaking beauty. I have tons of photos to share, so I’ll start from the beginning. Here are my snapshots from my brother’s wedding. (Hopefully when we receive pictures from the photographer, I will have even more to post.)
The bride’s mother was in charge of the reception hall decorations, and she did a fabulous job. I was totally impressed to hear that she came up with all the arrangements without looking at Pinterest.
After the rehearsal dinner at the church, we all headed over to the reception hall to help add the finishing touches to the decorations. Mr. Handsome was quite proud of the pillar that he and a few other groomsmen decorated:
The wedding cake was definitely the most unique I had ever seen. Half the layers were chocolate, and the other half were vanilla. I just love the vibrancy of the flowers!
My brother and his new wife sat at this newlywed table during our delicious dinner (salad, salmon or chicken, veggies, and rolls).
The reception hall was also on the ocean, so we enjoyed taking family photos with the sea as our backdrop.
Most of my aunts, uncles, and cousins were able to make the trek from Canada. Mr. Handsome’s parents, grandparents, and two youngest sisters also came to the wedding and drove with us down the coast. It was wonderful to have both our families together.

What gorgeous pictures!! The reception decorations are lovely. The coast pictures have me missing home. I lived in Lincolon city for over 2 years and spent a lot of my childhood visiting there on the weekends. So many memories.

Thank you, Shela! Lincoln City is a beautiful town. We stayed in a condo on the ocean. It was lovely.

Love your dress! Just wondering if anyone ventured out and put their toes in the ocean? I love walking on the beach!
[email protected]
Thanks! We didn't venture down on the day of the wedding (it was pretty cold and windy) but we did as we drove down the coast. Way too chilly to swim, but it was beautiful.

The wedding looks beautiful! I can hardly wait for pictures of the bride and groom!!! 🙂

Thank you! They were running around talking to people, so I didn't get a chance to take pics of them. I'll have to wait until we get the professional pics back. 🙂

Pretty dresses. Nice to see a modest bridesmaid dress.

She chose a color and allowed us to pick any floorlength dress from David's bridal that we wanted. That was wonderful because everyone was able to get what they wanted!

Were you and Mr Handsome in the wedding? Your colors seem to match the decor :0)
[email protected]
Hi margierings,
We were! The bride doesn't have any siblings, and in our family it's just my brother and I, so Mr Handsome were the only family members. The other seven on each side were friends.

I absolutely love the Oregon coast. I would love to see a photo of the chapel.
By the way, the first caption is grammatically incorrect; it should be "Mr. Handsome and me on the Oregon coast," not "Mr. Handsome and I."
Anonymous
I'm not sure about your comment on the grammatical correctness of the caption. From what I remember of my grammar classes, in a complete sentence "me" is used when it is the object of a verb or a preposition and "I" is used when it is in the subject of the sentence. Because the caption is just a short phrase (and perfectly acceptable as such), we can't be sure that "me" is preferable to "I". In a complete sentence, it would be correct to say "Mr. Handsome and I (subject of the sentence) are standing on the Oregon coast", but it would also be correct to say "This is a photo of Mr. Handsome and me (object of the preposition 'of') standing on the Oregon coast". Anyway, grammar aside, the photos are lovely! 🙂

She has a degree in journalism, I think she knows her grammar.
[email protected]
That was indeed a typo. I guess even journalism majors make grammar mistakes every once in a while. Lol. Thanks for pointing that out. 🙂

It's a very common mistake to use "(Person) and I" instead of "(Person) and me". The best way to figure out which one is appropriate is to take out the other person's name and say the sentence using just "I" or "me". For instance, if the photo were just of Ellie alone, the caption would read "Me on the Oregon coast" not "I on the Oregon coast." Therefore "Mr. Handsome and me on the Oregon coast" is correct.
Anonymous
It was correct already. "I" is nominative case (used only as a subject) and "me" is only objective case (used as a subject). It sounds funny because there is no verb, as that is not a complete sentence. She would indeed say "I am on the Oregon coast" and similarly "Mr. Handsome and I on the Oregon coast." She had it right in the first place.

I love your dress!! And the Oregon coast is beautiful isn't it? My family and I drove all the way down the from Oregon, to Coronado, CA and loved every minute of it!
[email protected]
The Oregon coast is extremely beautiful! And so is the California coast. Lots of harrowing cliffs though. Lol. Is Coronado in Southern California?

Yup, right next to San Diego

I visited San Diego as a kid. Beautiful area! I was 7 or 8 at the time, so the Legoland Museum was the highlight for my brother and I. Lol.

You look very pretty! And I think it was a good idea to have the decorations in fall colors!

You look beautiful Ellie and your dress is lovely and elegant! I love your necklace!

Thank you so much, Sarah! The jewelry was made by the bride's mom. She's quite talented. The charm on the necklace is detachable so we can wear it with or without it the future.

Hi Court,
My in-laws did that while we got ready for the wedding on Saturday morning. They loved it. We ended up seeing some sea lions further along down the coast.

What beautiful pictures, you and your mom are beautiful standing by your handsome husband and your father. It must be very special to be a guest of thebride and groom and have a delicious wedding reception dinner in such an enchantingly decorated room.

What beautiful decorations! I love the black table cloths to set off the beautiful autumnal tones of the flowers, candles and gold mesh accents. Your dress is stunning Ellie, and I love Mr Handsome's waistcoat and buttonhole! Altogether a really stylish wedding! Lovely pictures, thank you for sharing 🙂

Thank you! The bride's mother was a little hesitant to use black tablecloths. She thought it might look like a funeral, but it ended up looking quite sharp. She sure has an eye for design!
Glad you enjoyed the pictures. 🙂

Hi Ellie- I was reading the 20 random facts blog post about you and was just curious about one of them. You mentioned you never had a dog or cat as a pet, may I ask why? Also do you and Mr. H currently have a pet or if not do you want to get a pet someday?
[email protected]
Hi there,
Mr Handsome had dogs and cats growing up. My family had birds and hamsters. (Our house wasn't set up for bigger animals.) we would love to have a dog someday, although Mr Handsome is slightly allergic, so the dog might have to live outside. Right now we have a neighborhood cat that we feed, but that's it.

It's not good to "let" a dog live outside its whole life. Too hot, too cold, too buggy, too wet, and too lonely! Look into getting hypoallergenic or low-allergy dogs, something like a Portuguese Water Dog (like the Obamas have) of some sort of poodle. Poodles make excellent pets! Some grooming needed, but they are very intelligent and loyal family members.
[email protected]
Thanks for the tips. A poodle would be cute, although I think my husband is hoping for a golden retriever or lab one day. 🙂

Standard poodles are so much fun! Just as big as a Golden or a Lab, and just as smart if not more so. Good around kids, too.

That's good to know. Thanks! 🙂

Is the dress "Long Mesh Dress With Illusion Neckline," style number F15927? If so, what was the color?

Wow, you're good! The color is Apple. 🙂

Never underestimate your readers' abilities to track something down. 😉 It looks more rusty-red in your pictures than on the David Bridal website. Either color is good for a fall wedding, though.

No picture of the bride and groom? Would love to see her dress, if that was yours. You could blur out or cut off the faces if they don't want to be shown online, but still show the dress….

They were bustling around talking to people, so I didn't get a chance to take one. Hopefully the professional photos will arrive soon. 🙂

Hello Ellie!
I love your blog, and your dress is so beautiful! Really, you look stunning in those pics. I have a question. Why do you not share your husband's name? I understand if it's for privacy, but I'm a bit curious.
[email protected]
Hi Victoria!
Glad to have you on the blog! The main reason I cal him Mr Handsome is because I love the nickname so much. 🙂
Hope you have a great evening!

Your mother's dress looks like it may be or similar to Jeremy Vuolo's mother's dress that she wore to Jeremy's and Jinger's wedding! It is very pretty and a smart choice!
[email protected]
I hadn't thought about that, but you're right! I agree that it's a beautiful dress. 🙂
