My party-planning sister-in-law has been at it again. Now that she has two little boys whose birthdays fall within a few weeks of each other, she has started doing joint birthday parties. It has been a while since we have been able to make it to one of her gatherings, so we were thrilled to be at her recent Curious George birthday party for the boys.
The decor was adorable, and I love that this birthday party theme can be used for both boys and girls.
Curious George books proved to be great decorations for the tables.
In addition to chili and hot dogs, my sister-in-law made Curious George cupcakes, banana muffins, and banana splits. I couldn’t remember the last time I had had a banana split, but it had been long enough that I had forgotten how good they were.
Outdoor games and activities included pumpkin decorating, Feed the Banana to George (also known as cornhole or bags), and Pin the Tale on George.

Have you thought of a theme for your son’s first birthday party yet?
Ellie
I think we will keep his 1st birthday celebration simple. I’m not as into party planning as my sister-in-law. I’ll save the big birthday bashes for when he is older. 🙂

This is adorable! Thanks for sharing 🙂

Curious George is a cute theme and I love Curious George as a child. My daughter who will 19 on Sunday, still has her “George in a Box” toy she got when she was three.

While the party idea may be innocent, the original Curious George books are no longer culturally relevant or politically correct. Showing someone or something put in a bag and taken from Africa, only to get in constant trouble and land in jail, is not a story that children should be imagining.

We all grew up watching cartoons and looked at what happened on the cartoons as funny. Never did any of us try to imitate what happened on the cartoons because even a young mind recognizes that cartoons aren’t real but rather something that was enjoyable to watch. It’s only the liberal political correct people that have a problem distinguishing between what is real and what is a cartoon. I’m so glad that people are getting tired of all this silly political correct stuff because it has gotten real old for a whole lot of people.

And I’m so glad that some people grew up to realize that what they were shown as kids was wrong. Turning certain things into cartoons does not make them right or acceptable. Yes, kids did and still do imitate cartoons and movies.

1:42 I completely agree with you! I hate all of the political correctness! I never tried to imitate any cartoons and neither did any of my children! People and animals have been taken from places all over the world and introduced into new areas. That is just a part of life. Curious George did things out of curiosity not trying to be bad or evil.

Anon 1:42 The only way society will ever change for the better is for people to recognize and understand that some things are not correct. Surely you’re not suggesting we go back in time 100 or 200 years and still do and say the things we did back then, because it’s tiresome to do otherwise?

Curious George is a good theme for a birthday party. Thank you Ellie for sharing this wonderful idea despite what some people may think.

Seriously, at 1129, I don’t see anything wrong with Curious George.
Sami
11:29. That was in Africa not in the United States. So please mind your own business and stop making false accuratetions. ( SORRY SPELLED IT WRONG).

You see nothing wrong with something being put in a bag and smuggled to the US from Africa? You see no symbolism there?

Looks like a very sweet party. I used to participate in a group that did this type of event for small children.
As a parent it was fun to take them out to. It is nice of your sister in law to plan and prepare all of this. I have no issue with the theme, its known immigration isn’t always a perfect tale, but the USA is all about it all. Bless Anne’s heart, for her party for her children and their friends.
