Soon after our March 2015 engagement, we decided to write our own marriage vows. (Click here to read them.) We wrote a rough draft together, and then we each took that draft and made the vows our own. While decorating our rental house after the wedding, I wanted to display our vows in a place where we would see them every day. What better place than above our bed? (I considered hanging them in the living room, but that seemed too public.)
Instead of paying a pretty penny for professional framing, I purchased two pieces of blue cardstock paper at Jo-Ann for $0.20, printed our vows in a fancy cursive font, and placed them in 8×10 picture frames from the Bed Bath and Beyond clearance rack. What do you think of my arrangement?

Ellie I love how you totally believe in saving money and not over spending on things! I live my life the same way! Some may call it being "cheap" but I call it being smart! Why over spend when "being elegant" doesn't really matter since art is in the eyes of the beholder(s) !

I love it! My husband and I each wrote a note to each other for us each to read privately before our ceremony. I used Inexpensice frames and included my husband's silk corsage in the wall arrangement. Xoxo

Hi, Ellie!
Do you have any good Christian movies to recommend?
Thanks! 🙂

That's a great question. We like Courageous, Facing the Giants, Flywheel, Fireproof, and War Room. I'll have to come up with a list and share it on my blog. 🙂

This is a beautiful idea. A reminder when you lie down at night and arise in the morning. I like to decorate with biblical scripture, it gives such a feeling of peace and comfort, and a reminder of what's really most important in life.

Have you two ever thought about being foster parents or adopting children? I think you would make a really good foster family. You guys should go to a local foster information meeting.

We have considered that, but it sounds like you have to be married for two years before adopting or fostering. It is definitely something we will look into in the future.

You're going to have those vows with you for the rest of your life, why not invest in them so they look nice?

We do want children. We hope to have at least four, but we are open to whatever the Lord has in store.

To those who think that the vows need 'more' embellishments I would say that
Contentment is a noun and is an item the heart needs to make one or two satisfied and happy with what one or two had! And also those words retained in the memory and heart are what is needed to carry around with one or two as one lives – so they can be lived out in the marriage. You and your hubby are really showing the world what it is to meet and mate in the Lord, bless your hearts!
We can learn from you if we don't strongly identify with you.

I'm completely on board for putting things on the wall that tell your story {and don't break the bank!}! 🙂 I like that you even have the option of adding to your gallery wall as other memorable events take place.

Living in an earthquake state-I do not put anything on the wall at the head of my bed-everytime I see pictures placed above the bed I cringe, guess you do not have to worry about earthquakes in Tennessee.

Hi Ellie, your comforter is very nice. Where did you get it, if you don't mind me asking?

Why thank you! It's from Bed, Bath and Beyond. It's a duvet cover, which I LOVE. Makes washing so much easier.
