While wrapping Christmas gifts yesterday evening, I removed a price tag from a plastic surface and was left with a sticky mess. We didn’t have any Goo Gone, so I searched the internet for a homemade alternative and quickly found a solution. Oil and baking soda, y’all!
I suppose I’m a little behind, as this home remedy is found on numerous websites, but I know my readers will find it useful.
All you have to do is mix (approximately) two parts baking soda with one part oil (either vegetable oil or melted coconut oil). I just scooped a spoonful of coconut oil into a ceramic cup, threw it in the microwave for 30 seconds, added enough baking soda to create a paste, and voila! No more sticky mess.

I love natural home cleaning products! Thanks for sharing this one. In the past I've used baking soda, coconut oil, and a few drops of peppermint essential oil (as a toothpaste) to clean my teeth. Can't wait for my next sticky situation so I can try this out. 🙂

The coconut fat is something I have to get and then I can try all kinds of things it is used for, this one is news to me. This would be better than the chemical formulas. A lighter or match or candle can be used to warm the sticky spot on some items if they are not flammable and then the glue comes off easy (so I would guess having a hair dryer blow dryer would possibly warm the sticky spot enough to wipe the sticky stuff away easily, I will have to try that too.)Your idea might be good for fridges, windows and walls that have sticky spots on them. I even like this topic/idea, I really enjoy your blog Ellie. Thank-you!
