As many of you know, I’m always on the lookout for tasty chicken recipes. Chicken tends to be cheaper than other meats, and while Mr. Handsome loves his beef, I try to avoid serving it more than two or three times a week.
Have you ever tried honey mustard chicken? It’s one of our new favorites. At first, both of us were very unsure about combining honey and mustard on chicken, but it ended up being a winner. This recipe is quick and easy to prepare, and the meat stays deliciously moist. Mr. Handsome always grabs seconds. I usually serve it with a veggie and either rice or quinoa.
Honey Mustard Chicken
Ingredients
- 8 chicken drumsticks with skin on
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1-1/2 Tbsp yellow mustard
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp ground mustard
- 1 tsp white wine vinegar
- 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375F (190C). Line a baking pan (with high sides--not a cookie sheet) with foil, and place drumsticks in pan.
-
In a bowl, whisk together all remaining ingredients to make sauce. Drizzle sauce over drumsticks.
-
Bake drumsticks 50 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 165F (75C), flipping halfway through and basting with sauce.
Recipe Notes
Number of servings depends on the size of the drumsticks. If your guests are really hungry and the drumsticks are small, this recipe will only feed 3.

This looks really good, I’ll definitely try it soon!
You posted a parmesan chicken recipe a while ago which I loved, so I’m really looking forward to trying this one!
Thanks,
Abigail

Hi Abigail. I love the chicken Parmesan, as well. Haven’t made it in a while–thanks for the reminder!

Ellie do you cook dinner every night? Does Mr. Handsome eat leftovers?
Ellie
I cook most nights, although Mr. Handsome usually grills once a week. We usually eat our leftovers for lunch rather than dinner.

Is Mr Handsome still taking you out to eat in restaurants a lot?
Ellie
We usually eat out about once a week, either as a date night or with friends.

You’re married but you still date people?
Ellie
LOL, date nights with each other. 🙂

Looks good Ellie! Thanks for a dinner suggestion! I think I shall try it tomorrow night. I cook dinner too every night and send the leftovers with my hubby and children for lunch. I get stalled out tho time to time to know what to cook so I love suggestions!!! And yes, we love anything honey mustard!
Ellie
Let me know what you think of it, Candi!

I did make it and it was pretty good! The only thing I didn’t like was all the honey mustard goop ran off the chkn into the broth/fat while it was baking! So we couldn’t taste much of the flavor unless we dipped it into the sauce. So ok, maybe it was because I added more mayo to the sauce because I had a half more drumsticks than the eight and I wanted plenty of sauce to put on-so would more mayo make it slide off? The family really liked the flavor so I decided I’ll try it again with marinating the chkn first awhile in the honey mustard then just keep basting it on in the oven. Maybe this will do the trick? Idk lol !
Ellie
Hi Candi,
The extra mayo would make it more runny, and it would also make the sauce less flavorful, so that combined with additional chicken would make the dish less flavorful overall. If you have extra drumsticks next time, I would recommend adding extra of all the ingredients. Marinating is always a great idea. 🙂

Yes I did add double the sauce ingredients. Sorry I didn’t explain it better there but thanks for the tips, I’ll definitely try it again 🙂

Ellie I make honey mustard chicken too and we love it. I bake mine and then when it’s cooked through, I turn the stove on broil and with some of the honey mustard coating that I set aside, I coat the chicken and let it get brown under the broil until it’s a little crispy. It’s delicious 😋
Ellie
That’s a great idea! Thanks for sharing.

So Mr Handsome gets three and you and your guest get two? Or do you and your wee one you are eating for get three?
Ellie
If we’re really hungry, 3 for Mr. Handsome, 3 for a guest, and 2 for me. If we’re not as hungry or there’s plenty of other food, probably 2 for Mr. Handsome, 1 for me, and 5 split between 2 guests.

I make a variant of this chicken with spicy peach jam & brown mustard! I get the ham from my local farmer’s market—it’s habanero peach. It’s delicious!

Almost anything with honey & mustard is good for me 🙂
I’ve had food made with white wine like scallops and red wine in beef roast. The roast was good but white wine ruined the scallops for me. I like scallops (with garlic and butter). I oven-bake chicken breasts, unskinned, and then put different seasonings on each chicken breast (which I got on sale). This way the chicken has different flavors…I wrap up each breast and freeze. Boy! Chicken breast are huge nowadays! One feeds Grandpa Kahl and my husband, Jim.
