It’s been almost four months since we started our Magnificent Meal Monday tradition, and we’re still going strong. (Click here to read my post from September 28th.)
Mr. Handsome took it upon himself to post a list of his favorite meals to the fridge (which he calls “Husband Happy Meals”) so I won’t have to put too much thought into choosing something to cook every Monday evening.
I figured I might as well share that list with you all, for all the wives in need of some “husband happy meals.” I have included the links to the recipes that are on my blog, but be sure to let me know what other recipes you would like to see in the future. What are your family’s favorite meals?

My husband LOVES turkey burgers. I've never been big on red meat so when we first got married, I'd use turkey every other time. Turns out, he actually really likes them! He requests it OFTEN. He'll still get a beef hamburger if we go out for dinner every now and then but our staple over the last couple of years has been substituting ground beef for ground turkey – it's cheaper and healthier so I'm a happy camper!
He also gets excited about tacos …again, I sub out beef for ground turkey.
Oh, and ribs. I think he starts drooling just thinking about ribs!
We'll vary our toppings with the turkey burgers and tacos – sometimes throwing in some oven-cooked bacon for the burgers along with avocado and fancy salsa on the tacos or special cheeses.
I notice I tend to do that in general with my cooking – keep the base ingredients simple and then doctor it up so it feels new or different. Of course, add veggies and other side dishes when needed, too.
And now that I think of it, I think I do that with my dressing, too! I keep my wardrobe pretty simple and neutral but jazz it up with accessories or a scarf. HA! Amazing how humans tend to naturally fall into a routine.
I have to say one of my favorite aspects of being a wife is being able to make good food for him. I'm not a short order cook and don't take demands but I do like making things special for him since it's just the two of us. He says he's never eaten so good in his life… lol, that always makes me feel happy.
I did bomb some pulled pork earlier this week, though! The meat itself was good but not sure where I went wrong with the sauce. We were able to save about half the meat so that's good at least. Can't win 'em all! 😉

I completely agree with you, that one of the best parts about being a wife is making good food for our hubbies! And when it's tasty AND healthy, it makes it even better. My husband also LOVES ribs.
My mom used to use ground turkey instead of ground beef in her recipes. You've motivated me to want to try that with my husband. 🙂

Hi! I was wondering how to set up a blog?
[email protected]
Hi there!
I recommend using Blogger. It's fairly easy to use, and there are a lot of resources online to help you. 🙂

Hi Ellie, Does it cost much money?

Nope, Blogger is free. 🙂

Hi Elli,
I really enjoy your blog as well as the other blogs you write. Thank you for sure so much of your life with us!
What is Stromboli? I've never heard of it before. Some of these meals are my boyfriends favourites too!
Love Katherine
(Australia)

Thank you, Katherine! I'm blessed to have you as a reader.
Stromboli is very similar to pizza. You make the dough, put the toppings on, and then roll it up. I'll have to post some pictures of the process.
Hope you're having a wonderful summer down in Australia! 🙂

Haha a fellow Aussie who also had no idea what Stromboli was but reading your description Ellie, I think we have something the same/similar but we call them 'pizza pockets'
And they are delicious

What about "Happy Wife Meals"?
[email protected]
I'm not too picky when it comes to food. As long as I have some good fruit (either frozen or fresh), a few pieces of dark chocolate every afternoon, and an avocado and salad every couple days, I'm a happy camper. 🙂 My goal is cook meals that are both healthy and tasty, so as long as I accomplish that, nothing else matters to me.

Ellie, I can very much relate to enjoy being able to cook for someone you love. I'm just wondering, what are some of YOUR favorite dishes? Shouldn't the Magnificient Meal Monday make you happy, as well? Your list should be right there with your husbands and you could alternate every week.

Hi Kate,
Before I got married, pasta was my all-time favorite, but my husband isn't a fan of it. At first, I was a little sad about that, but then I realized that pasta isn't super healthy anyways. So it has been a good thing! (We still eat pasta on occasion, but not usually more than once or twice a month.)
I didn't grow up eating a lot of meat, but I've really started to enjoy meat dishes. Aside from cheeseburgers (not a huge fan of those) and eggs and bacon (not a fan of eggs), those are now my favorite meals, too. 🙂

But isn't eating a lot of meat not very healthy either?
[email protected]
Hi there,
We eat everything in moderation, and we keep our portion sizes fairly small. Meat keeps us fuller for longer, so we hardly snack or eat empty carbs.
Blessings,
Ellie

That is too much meat. You should try Meatless Mondays. Much healthier. On a side note RIP Alan Rickman. Great actor and man.

My husband likes meat way too much to do meatless Mondays, but we did a lot of vegetarian meals when I was growing up. 🙂

My husband loves his meat. 🙂

Seems like there would be a high level of animal grease in this diet. That collects in the body.

These are two of my husband's favorite meals.

One thing you should know about that second recipe is to NOT use as much salt as the author calls for. Anytime salt is listed just add a teaspoon of it (or even less if you're a low sodium family). Seriously trust me…I learned the hard way. Also, since my hubs likes saucy food in general, we go with a single recipe for the chicken but double the sauce recipe (which is the second column of ingredients).
You should try them and see how it goes.

Those recipes sound delicious, Sarah! I'm printing them right now. Thanks!

Hi. Do you ever use venison? My husband hunts and we love having the meat. Processing fee often seems a lot upfront but saves throughout the year. Even if your family or you don't hunt, you can ask a hunter if they have extra. Just a thought!

I've never tried venison, but I would love to. Thanks for the idea!

Hi Ellie!! Have you ever tried to cook beef meatloaf with olives?? One of my favorite dishes is chicken rolls with ham and cheese and beacon around them. I love your Monday meal tradition 🙂
[email protected]
Hi Marta!
Olives are one healthy food that I'm not a fan of. 🙂 Those chicken rolls sound delicious! I might have to try making them.

What kind of vegetarian meals did your mom make when you were growing up? Thats why your so skinny you didn't eat meat.
[email protected]
Haha, I suppose that could be why. 🙂
We ate very simply. We ate fish once a week, other meats once or twice, and pasta once. We ate a lot of salad, steamed veggies and rice.

Hi Ellie! could you consider posting your Shepard's Pie recipe? Shepards pie has always been a favorite of mine (: I'd love to see how you make it!

Sure! I'll try to post it this week or next. 🙂

Ellie do you have a recipe for ribs you can share? The ones I've tried never work out right…
[email protected]
Hi there,
Sorry for the delayed response. Your comment got caught in my spam filter. I do have a recipe, and I would love to share it. I'll put it on my list of upcoming posts. Costco also sells a reasonably priced package of pre-seasoned ribs that we like.
Blessings,
Ellie

Meat is healthy for you if it's lean chicken, Turkey or ground pork and ground Turkey.
Thats what they tell Diabetic to eat.
