When Calls the Heart is off the air until 2020, and I’m missing my favorite frontier soap opera. Hallmark recently announced that there will be a Christmas special, but Christmas is still more than four months away. (Little Buddy will be just days away from his first birthday at that point–how is that possible?) I have had brief discussions with a few readers about When Calls the Heart in the past and was pleasantly surprised to find that quite a few of you enjoy the show as much as I do.
Mr. Handsome and I made a short video (embedded below) discussing our favorite characters. Do you have a favorite character? And in case you hadn’t heard the good news, a spinoff series, When Hope Calls, is slated to premiere August 30th. The series will be set in Brookfield, a 1916 town similar to Hope Valley, and will tell the story of Lillian and Grace, sisters who were introduced in the 2018 When Calls the Heart Christmas movie, and their orphanage. I can hardly wait to tell Mr. Handsome that we will have yet another Hallmark series to watch together! He will be so thrilled.

I love that series but can only watch it when Netflix adds another season..Another family oriented series on Netflix is Heartland. No nudity or cursing and is definitely for horse lovers.
Ellie
Haven’t tried Heartland, but I have heard good things about it. Need to give it a try. I’m not sure if Mr. H would be able to handle that one though. LOL

I love Heartland can’t wait for it to come back on the UP channel. I have season 1 of Heartland on DVD, and Heartland Christmas on DVD.

I love When Calls the Heart! I won’t say anymore about the show in case you have readers who are binge watching on Netflix. I’m all caught up now so I’m anxiously awaiting for it to return.
I don’t know if I have a favorite character though. I’ll have to ponder your question and get back to you.
Ellie
Sounds good. It’s a hard choice. The show has good characterization!

I love when calls the heart, I hope that When hope calls comes out they will put it on Netflix just like WCH. I’m kind of wondering if Lillian is the same Lillian from the series Love comes softly and they are going to intertwine the two series, which isn’t that far of a stretch since Love Comes Softly, When calls the heart and When Hope Call all are written books of Jeanette Oak. Still waiting for the past season on When Calls the Heart to come to Netflix.
Ellie
You’re right! I guess we’ll have to see.
Darline
LOVE when calls the heart. Is the end really when she finds Jack is dead. Is that how it ends?
Marilyn
I enjoyed the books that this series is based on but just couldn’t get into the tv program.

I’m just wondering how the show is going to continue now that Lori is leaving🙁
Hannah
I’m wondering that too? Will they replace her or just write her out? I missed her on the last few re-done episodes.

The audio on almost all of your videos is way too light and faint making it a strain to get what is being said.
B
We Hope Calls is only is going to show on Hallmark Movies now. Not on the Hallmark channel. I just looked.

Maybe it is good. I stopped cable because I was a party to unknown peoples decisions on what to air and much of it I found to be not Christian.

Network (antenna) TV isn’t Christian either. Starting with the news!

Sorry, I don’t like the Hallmark Channel. I find their programming vapid. My BFF said to try it so I did. It was one movie after the other all with the same plot: Local girl moves back to small town to save struggling family business and falls in love again with her still dashingly handsome high school sweetheart, who is now a single parent. Only it takes them awhile to realize that they all need to live happily ever after, together. If it’s Christmas, just add snow. And an inn. And a parade or pageant. Am I right?
I’d rather watch a good documentary on PBS or The History Channel.
Ellie
LOL, there is quite a bit of truth to that! I enjoy Hallmark movies (they just make me feel good), but I prefer their TV shows because I find them less predictable.

Hallmark Channel is not vapid. PBS and the History channel are the worst. I watch Hallmark channel from 8am tell 5pm.
Jessica
I really like When Calls the Heart. My daughter and I watch it for girls only time. When there is Daddy and five boys, they have to be excluded sometime. ( Ok, so the baby gets to be included.)
I think I like Rosemary and Lee better. But all of the characters are good.
We got the Hallmark Now subscription so we can watch the spinoff. But I have found other hallmark shows enjoyable too.
Ellie
Aww, sounds like a great time of bonding with your daughter. Is she more of a tomboy with having 5 brothers?
Ellie
Jessica
She is more of a tomboy. She tries to prove her strength like her brothers by picking up everything and talking about how strong she is. She is strong though, but it’s funny. But she really likes jewelry now because of her grandmother. I don’t wear jewelry, but she buys her lots.
She just turned 9, and having five brothers is definitely helping mold her personality, but she’s getting more girly all of the time. We are so thankful for all of our children but it’s refreshing having a girl with five little boys.
Ellie
Aww, that’s cute. On the flip side, do you think having only one sister make your boys a little more “rough and tumble” than they might be with more sisters? Does she keep them in line? LOL

We love When Calls The Heart. We miss Abigail, because there is something lacking without that character. Looking forward to the Christmas Movie. The new series will not be on the regular Hallmark Channel. It will be on the pay one. We are disappointed about that decision.
Marilyn
Ellie
I miss Abigail, too. Perhaps they will bring in another similar character in her place.
I’m hoping the new series will still be available on iTunes and Amazon.

I love When calls the Heart and I am looking forward to it’s return. Elizabeth is my favorite character and was sad to see her husband on the show written out. I thought they were great together in their roles.
It seems like yesterday when you had your little one and when you mentioned Christmas and him turning one soon after that. Where did the time go? Take Care
Ellie
I know, time has flown by! My husband was saying the other day that we are more than 1/36th of the way through his childhood. I can’t get over how fast it’s going.
Ellie
Diana
I love When Calls the Heart! Only watch it on Netflix, but it’s still good even behind.
Sorry, I didn’t watch your clip. Hate turning off the ad block. I like Rosemary. Her quirkiness, humor, and self adoration adds a bit of levity into what can be a serious story line. As much as I like seriousness (it’s pretty much how I always am. lol) I do enjoy the change of pace Rosemary provides. She’s gorgeous and so full of life!
Ellie
I agree, Rosemary is a fun character. A tad annoying at times, but she has a good heart.

My hubby and I like to watch Hallmark movies, but I never watch When Calls the Heart, but my hubby has watch every episode.
Beth
I love watching Hallmark movies. I still watching Christmas movies from 2018 that I had recorded.

If you haven’t watched Signed, Sealed, and Delivered yet; it is a must! Another fantastic series from Hallmark that keeps you intrigued.
Ellie
Thanks! Another reader recommended that, so it’s on my list. Might have to watch it alone though because I’m not sure I can convince Mr. H to watch an additional Hallmark series.

Please dont tell me that Jack is going to be actually dead. That romance was so nice.
