Mr. Handsome loves cherry strudel. Until a few years ago, he had no idea what it was, and he thought it was a very odd word, but now, it’s one of his favorite desserts. Hear us tell the story below, and look for a recipe coming soon.

Apple strudel is my favorite! How are you feeling these days Ellie? I’m sure you are getting excited to meet your little guy.
Ellie
I haven’t tried apple strudel, but I do enjoy apple pie, so I’m sure it would be great. I’m feeling ready to have the baby, LOL. A lot bigger and more uncomfortable. But I know it’s all so worth it. Just waiting on a replacement part for the crib to arrive so we can put it together. Then I’m hoping Mr. Handsome will be able to make some paintings for the baby room, and it will be ready. I’ll definitely breathe a sigh of relief when it’s all done. Thanks for asking, Regina. 🙂

You just must be so excited to welcome your baby boy soon! I see all the baby pictures on the Duggar and Bates blogs and I can’t wait to see pictures of your squishy bundle of joy. Prayers for a healthy/easy remainder of pregnancy for you and a safe and easy delivery.

I live in one of the homes of strudel! If you’d like a recipe, let me know.
Ellie
What are the homes of strudel, Karen?
Karen
It’s actually from Austria, but it has long been a staple here in Germany.

My husband and I never heard of cherry strudel, so I can’t wait to see the recipe. Is it something like a cherry turnover, my husband loves those??? Jane
Ellie
I’ve never had cherry turnover, but the photos I looked up online make it look pretty similar. Anyone else know the answer to this?

Turnovers are usually made with puff pastry dough. The dough for traditional strudel is unique, not exactly a phyllo dough or a puff pastry dough. The magic in the strudel dough is how it is kneaded to let the gluten softly develop and then stretched so thin that you should be able to see your hand under it, before the filling is added and the dough is rolled up. The old saying is that you should be able to read a love letter through the dough when it is stretched thin enough. It really is amazing dough to work with.

You’ve never had a turnover from Arby’s, Ellie? It’s those triangular puffy things with pie filling in them. Those have cherry or apple pie filling but we have a store that makes them here in our area and they are so good!!! Raspberry, blueberry and cream cheese, and lemon must be the favorites here. It’s hard to not stop and get one!!!
Ellie
I don’t believe I have tried those. I just ate blueberry and cream cheese toast for breakfast this morning, so I’m sure I would love that one.
