Someone asked us what our favorite styles of music are, and this led to a discussion about Mr. Handsome’s music rebellion. His parents had an unique philosophy on the idea of rebellion in general, and also how it related to music. You can hear our full explanation in the video below.

You ought to put the videos on Youtube and put a link here because the videos don’t show up on the blog for everyone.

I like your videos. We have a radio station in our town that is popular with the older generation ( WJEJ 1240 am ), it plays light and easy music from yesterday and today. I listen to this at home and in the car. You can get this station on the internet, type letters and numbers and than click listen live. My parents didn’t own a radio or a record player, so only music I listen to was on TV or at church.

My parents LOVED and played frequently all styles of music, and sometimes on Saturday Daddy would let everyone have turns playing their favorite 45’s in the den. Of course, we had our own stereos in our rooms, but Saturdays were special. 60’s-80’s rock with some 90’s rock is what I listen to, but 70’s rock is what I love. Sometimes I’ll get my parents vinyl out and take trips down memory lane. I even have some vinyl that belonged to my Grandmother. My parents were teenagers during the 50’s, so I like a lot of that. I do like some Christian rock, but I don’t listen to it like I used to. In Moma’s later yrs, my brother and she would come over on Friday nights, and we’d stay up to 1 or 2 am playing music videos on YouTube. My 80 yr old mother would actually request ZZ Top. I miss those times.

Those sound like wonderful memories. Thank you for sharing!

Fun topic! For a fun, non-annoying kids’ music (that also has a good message), you should try an album titled, ” Slugs and Bugs and Lullubies,” by the artists Andrew Peterson and Randall Goodgame.
Ellie
Another reader recently recommended ‘Slugs and Bugs’ to me. Haven’t listened to too many of them yet, but I plan to!

Yes! I second the Slugs and Bugs! Four of their albums, called Slugs and Bugs Sing the Bible, are all Bible verses. My older and younger children love them and us adults do too. They have some fun silly albums too.
Anne
I totally relate about the obnoxious children’s music! Thankfully we found Slugs and Bugs on Spotify and the whole family enjoys it. There are Scripture songs as well as just fun songs.
I’m not sure what genre this is but I love listening to John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, Robert Earl Keen, Steve Goodman, Bob Dylan (Saved album) and recently Ryan Adams.
Do you remember your post about Chris Rice? I actually purchased his hymn album and listen to that frequently.
Ellie
Hi Anne,
Thanks for the Slugs and Bugs suggestion! I just listened to a few, and it sounds really good. I’ll have to show it to Little Buddy.
Wow I’m impressed that you remember that post. That makes me happy to hear that you purchased the album and enjoy it. 🙂 What other hymns are on the album?

Anne, some of the artists you mentioned sing folk and country. Bob Dylan’s son, Jakob Dylan, has a special on Netflix called Echoes in the Canyon that gives the back drop of some music from the 60’s. It’s a very good special, if you’re into that sort of thing. Jakob looks just like his father and just as talented. Jakob used to sing with a group called the Wallflowers in the 90’s. I enjoy listening to his remake of a Mama and Papa’s song Go Where You Wanna Go. It’s on YouTube and the Netflix special.

We listen to all kinds of music, attend (before covid) concerts, music festivals, and various events. I grew up with a wide range of music played at home and so did my husband. Our children listened to children’s music, world music, classical, spiritual music, hymns, from an early age on. We allowed them to select and experience music as teenagers. I watched your video a couple of times and am unclear what Mr H’s rebellion was.
Ellie
Hi Eileen,
His rebellion was that he started listening to genres of music, such as bluegrass and contemporary Christian, that weren’t the classical music that his family was accustomed to. 🙂

That was rebellion?? It seemed more like click bait!

I Love listen to 60’s,70s, 80’90’s music. My mom had vinyl records out and play them for us I think they were 50’s music. I also listen to county’s music.
I don’t like the music that’s out know.

Did the tornado(es) pass by tonight with no damage? Your area was mentioned on The Weather Channel as it was happening.
Ellie
We are safe. Thank you for asking! Tons of rain in Middle Tennessee this weekend, but thankfully we didn’t experience any flooding on our property.
Ellie
Barb
I’m really glad to hear your family and property are ok after the harsh rain. I immediately thought of you. My prayers are certainly with the folks of Middle Tennessee who were hit hard with flash flooding. I pray fir the families of those who died and for all who are missing.
Ellie
Thank you, Barb! Sadly, there were more than 20 deaths, with about 20 people still missing. The Nashville news outlets reported that two of the individuals who passed away were 7-month-old babies who were swept from their father’s arms in a flash flood. Absolutely devastating.

I heard about the babies on the news tonight. Twins. Absolutely heartbreaking. Imagine the anguish and grief that family is going through. Nobody should have to experience that.
Ann
Ellie I heard the twins were swept from their mom’s arms.

I’m ready for another post. Lol 😉😇

I love Electronica music the most, I’ve loved The Chemical Brother since 1996!!!!!!! They have filled my life with beautiful music over the years!!!!! In 96, I went this CD store called “Euro Trends CD”, and fell in love with them the first time I heard them!!!!!
