God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1)
Our hearts are broken over the news of the shooting that took place yesterday at The Covenant School in Nashville. Three adult employees and three children were tragically killed by a single shooter. We have a couple friends of friends whose children attend the school and were on campus during the shooting. Our prayers are with the families and friends of the victims as they grieve the loss of their loved ones, as well as the many adults and children who survived and are no doubt experiencing trauma.
Eileen
Upon hearing the news, I immediately thought of you, Ellie and your precious family. I am thankful your family is fine but sad to hear that families you know have been traumatised by the shocking events. I pray for them and all others in Nashville, but especially the families of those who lost someone. Truly another horrible event. Thankyou for the quote. It is what we depend on, God’s strength and refuge.
Ellie
Thank you, Eileen. You are very kind to have thought of us.

As a nation, we need to do better with mental health treatments and services. We need to take all possible threats more seriously. We need to do something about gun ownership, especially assault weapons. We need to make room in our hearts for those who feel they are somehow outcast by us. We need to work to make their lives more meaningful instead of more difficult.
That’s my prayer, that we won’t have to be giving “thoughts and prayers” after something like this ever again. This problem began with us and it can end with us, if we put in the effort. Ask yourself today, who do you know who is troubled, and what have you done about it? Who are the leaders who can help us achieve positive changes, and have you empowered them to do so? Or have you chosen people who create unproductive angry division instead of productive peaceful togetherness?
This is up to you, and therefore all of us. Be proactive, not just reactive!

I’ve been praying dear friend. I can’t even imagine losing my loved ones in such a terrible way, especially a child. Do you know if there will be some sort of fundraiser to help pay for funerals for the victims?
Ellie
That’s very kind of you to want to donate, Regina. There’s a message on the school’s website that mentions a fund that’s been set up thecovenantschool.com/support-tcs/

Thank you Ellie.

I knew you would have something beautiful and compassionate to say, and I was right. Thank you.

It’s so awful. Honestly, I’m so happy we don’t have guns in the UK!

You do have guns in the UK.
MarriedUK
Obviously we do literally. What I meant was that there are many fewer and they are controlled by a system of licences and mental health checks. So we don’t have random shootings.

Hope the tornadoes tonight aren’t near you. It’s very bad all through the Midwest.
Ellie
Thank you for your well wishes. Nothing from the tornadoes although we did have a tree come down today from all the wind. Didn’t cause any damage thankfully. It’s very sad to see all the news articles about destruction in the region.
