They got rid of the chicken salad sandwich? 😞 I made a yummy baked macaroni and cheese recently. In our house we love tacos made at home or at Taco Bell. We also enjoy Cracker Barrel and pizza.

Regina! They still had chicken salad sandwich were I live. I had it for lunch the other day

Have you ever heard of jovial foods? My sis eats gf and gets pasta noodles from there. They have lots of different varieties and I’ve heard they are super good! Maybe a little pricey but really good quality.
Ellie
I’ve seen that at the grocery store but haven’t tried it. I will now though, since you say it’s good. Thanks!
Jessica
Totally agree! Jovial is the best. Since going gluten free myself due to health issues, this pasta is in my weekly meal plans. Another positive for me was my hubby and kids never knew the difference from the pasta we used before. Worth the extra money!
Ellie
Thanks for chiming in, Jessica! It’s always nice when you find a GF product that tastes like it isn’t GF. LOL.
Tiffany
If you don’t mind sharing why are you trying gluten free?
I tried it for a short time and it was hard . I was also trying to stay away from processed sugar and milk products . I did that right before my a1c to see if that could lower it and also to see if it could help me get pregnant . Since I read those foods can help with inflammation. I haven’t been tested for endometriosis , but I have wondered if I could have it.
My blood test for the anti-cardiolipin came back normal . I did a second test 12 weeks later . I was taking baby aspirin then and they told me to stop since it was normal and my second embryo transfer didn’t work . We recently did a chromosome analysis test and will find out in a few weeks if that’s normal .
Ellie
Hi Tiffany,
I’m so sorry to hear that your journey has been so challenging. That sounds really hard. The gluten-free is for a separate health issue that I have. (I would be more than happy to share more on that via email.) I’m not sure if it is helping with that issue, but I’ve decided to give it a go for a couple years and then reevaluate. I have been taking a baby aspirin since my miscarriage and have been told by my ob to continue it, both before and during pregnancy, due to my past miscarriages and also the fact that I was induced for high blood pressure with my son. I was also told by them that baby aspirin has been shown to help if you contract covid. Mr H and I also have some supplement recommendations that our reproductive endocrinologist recommended. I can give you those via email as well. 🙂

Ellie, people in your religion are always stating that they “leave the size of their family up to God,” or “leave the timing up to God,” but you’re doing things like seeing a reproductive endocrinologist and taking medicines? How is that leaving things up to God?
Ellie
There are a small percentage of Christians who are led by God to have very large families. Just like there are a small percentage of people in the general population who have large families. What people who share our faith do is pray and seek God’s wisdom. That’s what we do for every area of life, and the size of our families is no different. In the 21st century, God has blessed us with wonderfully intelligent healthcare professionals, and I am very grateful to live in a city with great medical care. Our world is broken, which means that there are a host of diseases, disorders, and complications that can impact our general health, including our ability to have children. There is nothing wrong with using the blessings that God has given us to do what He has called us to do. Hope that answers your questions 🙂

@Ellie 11:52 So does that include using birth control for those who would include that as a blessing?
Ellie
That would be a personal question that individual couples would need to pray about.
Tiffany
I sent you my email through the contact Ellie.

I agree, I’ve been disappointed with a lot of restaurant meals lately. And it’s just so expensive to eat out. We try to patronize local, non-chain restaurants when we do eat out.
When we *do* eat at a chain, our favorites are Panera and Chipotle. I feel like the quality of those 2 restaurants is consistent.
Ellie
We also enjoy Panera and Chipotle. It’s not a five-star meal, but the quality and taste are consistent, and both are very satisfying.

Check with your local health department’s restaurant sanitation grades before eating anywhere. Both of those chains have had major problems. Chipotle made national news because of it. Our local Panera was shut down 2 years ago, things were so bad.
Ellyn
Definitely!

I enjoy eating at Olive Garden My favorite meal I make at home is Chicken and rice.
Ellie
I love Olive Garden! Mr. H isn’t as much of a fan. There gluten free menu isn’t super expansive, but the quality is consistent, and it’s tasty. And their salad is great.

I love their salad, eggplant and their soup

Do you eat at restaurants that serve buffet like Golden Corral? We are now eating blt sandwiches and salads using our home grown tomatoes from our garden!
Ellie
I ate at buffets quite a bit growing up, but it has been years. I’m not sure I’ve ever tried Golden Corral. Home grown tomatoes are the best! We have a few plants, too.

Buffets disappeared when Covid appeared. I hope they don’t come back because most were bacteria spreaders.
Eileen
We are the same as the 2 of you. We prefer to eat at home and find we like what we prepare better than many restaurants. If we eat out, we too try to patronize locals restaurants rather than chains and have foods from a variety of cultures. I too love Italian Ellie but as someone who has Celiac disease and must eat GF foods, that is better prepared at home as well. We use Tinkyada GF products for pasta. It is our wedding anniversary Tuesday and we have decided to make a special meal at home comprised of dishes that have meaning and memories for us.
Ellie
I love Tinkyada pasta. And I love that they have different shapes, like shells, etc. Makes it more fun. Happy Anniversary! That sounds like a great way to celebrate. What dishes are you planning to make?
AmyRyb
You can make your own GF Italian and mac & cheese – just get Barilla GF pasta, it cooks up wonderfully. If it’s something that you’re going to reheat, err on the side of al dente because GF pasta tends to get overdone and fall apart a bit easier in leftovers especially. But I have no complaints with Barilla. Maybe not a restaurant-quality meal when you have to make it yourself, but it works for recipes you may already like at home. There’s an app called “Find Me Gluten Free” that can track down good restaurants in your area with GF food. The reviews are so helpful, especially if you have to worry about cross-contamination or anything like that, because people will say if they had reactions after eating there.
Ellie
Thank you for the tips, Amy!

Off topic – where are your drapes from?
Ellie
I believe those ones were from Bed Bath and Beyond. It has been several years, but the brand is Regal Home Collections.
Federica
I completely share your and Mr. Handsome’ s views about eating out: I enjoy making both simple and nice meals at home, which is so much better for both health and wallet! Have you read the book about the different love languages? I think food/cooking is my love language, LOL! I love to cook for family and loved ones, planning menus, shopping for ingredients, making the food, serving it, enjoying it together…it’s my way of saying to someone “I love you and I appreciate you!”.
For us, eating out is either a “break” from the routine (for example, splurging when we are on vacation, or when on a special outing with our son), or if there is a restaurant that someone highly recommended we try, or a cuisine I am still learning how to cook, and I am not very good at it, or the ingredients are hard to find, the cooking technique is still too complex for me to master (for example, Japanese food).
My favorite things to cook are fresh, homemade pasta with homemade meatballs, and berry pies. My favorite things to eat are cheeses, eggs, and chicken (protein gal!), and my favorite chain restaurant is Cracker Barrel. It just makes me happy every time I go. In the fall, they have these pecan pancakes that are totally splurge-worthy, and of course the fried chicken with turnip greens and mashed sweet potatoes!
Ellie
Hi Federica,
We read the love languages book by Gary Chapman early in our marriage. Really enjoyed it! It’s great that you enjoy cooking for others. Sadly, I don’t think I’ve ever tried homemade pasta, which is strange because I LOVE pasta. Cracker Barrel also makes me happy, LOL, so I know what you mean. It’s a very cheerful restaurant. Have you tried their grilled rainbow trout? That’s what I get when I’m wanting to be healthy, or one of their salads.
Ellie

I love Cracker Barrel grilled rainbow trout!!
