Since you are are an avid money saver, is there anything you think is worth splurging on or that you don’t feel as bad to spend a lot of money on?
Mr. Handsome and I had some good laughs over this question. It also lead to a discussion about our favorite flavor of ice cream. He thinks mine is ridiculous. Watch our video, and then tell us in the comments section what you allow yourself to splurge on and what your favorite flavor of ice cream is.
Lily
My favorite type of ice cream is Häagen Dazs White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle!
Ellie
Haven’t tried it, but sounds good!

Lol, My favorite ice cream is soft serve vanilla, Neapolitan and moose tracks. I tried a new one last week Magic Bar at our ice cream shop. Coconut ice cream with caramel, graham crackers and chocolate chips. Not one of my favorites!!! Jane
Ellie
Haven’t had soft serve in ages! I do love it though. Moose tracks is great, too. Ooh, I love coconut ice cream. Sounds like we have the same tastes. 🙂
Melanie
I love ice cream, and I love high quality ones that have coffee and chocolate flavors within. Have you tried the Ben and Jerry’s Tonight Dough pint slices? It is amazing! Unfortunately, it is expensive, so it is a splurge.
Ellie
Haven’t tried that one, although we got a container of Ben and Jerry’s cookie dough while we were on vacation, and it was great.

I splurge on sneakers. I only buy one pair a year or until they look run down, then I replace with a new pair. The splurge comes in the cost. You get what you pay for and I do a lot of walking since I don’t drive. My feet need to be comfortable. My favorite flavors ice cream are: chocolate with almonds and my second would be chocolate chip.
Ellie
It’s very true that you get what you pay for with sneakers!

I allow myself to splurge on tea from Republic of Tea. I absolutely love all kinds of tea with chocolate peppermint being my favorite.
Like Lily @1:49 my favorite ice cream is Haagen Dazs White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle.
Ellie
Ooh, yes! The Republic of Tea is a great brand. I haven’t purchased anything of theirs, but I have tried it a few times. Chocolate peppermint sounds very tasty.
Ellie
Jesussaves
Baskin Robbins peanut butter and jelly and Mandarin chocolate orange, Old flavors, they may not have them anymore. Also salted caramel and peppermint chocolate concretes.
Ellie
Sounds interesting! I haven’t been to Baskin Robbins in ages.
Sarah
Breyer’s Neoplotan, Chocolate and Mint Chip are well loved by me!!! I splurge on Talenti Gelato, My/Mo Mochi, and ice cream from cute shops, where two scoops costs the same as a half gallon from a grocery store.
Ellie
Breyer’s is another great brand. Haven’t tried Talenti Gelato. What is My/Mo Mochi?
Sarah
It’s a small ball of ice cream covered in mochi (a Japanese rice flour confection). It comes in several different flavors. It’s a fun thing to try if you ever come across it 🙂
Ellie
I will definitely try that if I come across it!

Cars. I won’t buy anything except European and brand new. Anything else annoys me.
Flights. I only fly First Class. Anything else annoys me.
I don’t eat ice cream so I can’t weigh in.
Ellie
What brand of European cars is your favorite?
Marie
Cheers for Mr. Handsome! I just about whooped outloud when he said Double Dunkers!!! My absolute favorite….but really I love em all! Except mint chocolate chip isn’t so great.
Ellie
He will be thrilled to know that there’s another Double Dunker lover out there! I really like that brand of ice cream, too. I think it’s Turkey Hill…
Marie
Yes Turkey Hill brand is our family fave. It’s local, along with the Turkey Hill gas stations, and we personally think it’s the best!

Sounds crazy, but I splurge on salt. I only like Fleur de Sel French salt (Esprit de Sel brand), or Maldon flakes (English, pyramid-shaped flakes) or Antarctic sea salt from the currents off the west coast of Africa. I can definitely taste the mineral differences among those salts and ordinary table salt (Morton’s). With better flavor in these salts, you use less of them. Maldon’s flakes are a “finishing salt” that gets put on right before eating. A little pinch on top of a baked potato or a steak is all you need.
If you’ve never tried a better salt than the kind in the blue box with the umbrella girl on it, you don’t know what you’re missing. Even some of the cheaper “sea salts” out there aren’t as good as Fleur de Sel and Maldon’s. Maldon’s also has a smoked salt that’s interesting. Fleur de Sel has been harvested from the same small coastal area of France for 1400 years, BTW. They’re doing something right.
Ellie
Not crazy at all. I’m sure those salts taste much better. Out of curiosity, are they iodized or non-iodized?

I splurge on vacations and I am probably one of the few that doesn’t like ice cream. My husband and kids think I’m weird!
Ellie
Oh wow! But I’ll bet it’s nice not being tempted by it. Makes it easier to eat healthy. 🙂 I agree with splurging on vacations.

I just splurged on watching you two in your vlog here.
I have a 3 GB data plan and I just used about 25 mb watching and reading etc. It’s weird that there’s so much vicarious pleasure in just looking at pictures of food and reading and watching people talk about what they eat! Do you ever ask people what they had for a meal because it makes you feel good to listen to them say what they ate? I do it a lot. Anyway it was interesting so thanks for sharing. I think a strawberry milkshake with whipped cream topping is a nice treat.
Ellie
Thanks for splurging to watch our video. 🙂 A strawberry milkshake sounds delicious right now!
Amy
My favourite ice cream is vanilla… and much as I love ice cream, I actually normally turn most of my tub into milkshakes!
My splurge items is pure virgin olive oil… I grew up in a home where vegetable oil was used for everything.
Ellie
Mr. Handsome mostly eats milkshakes, as well, and he has gotten me into loving them, too. What brand of pure virgin olive oil is your favorite?
Ellie
Alicia Mae
I splurge on books! Although I’m also a devoted library user. My book splurges are pretty deliberate 😊 My favorite ice cream flavor is Blue Bell Moo-llennium Crunch. (I’m in Texas, so of course I had to go with Blue Bell!)
Ellie
I have tried Blue Bell once, and it was very good! Our friends who live in Texas buy only Blue Bell.

Braum’s ice cream – nearly any flavor as long as it is from Braum’s! Splurge on organic fruits and veggies as well as grass fed beef and organic, pasture raised eggs. Good foods just make us feel better.
Ellie
I know of some other folks who like Braum’s, too. I’ve had it a few times, and it was great.

My absolute favorite ice cream is chocolate fudge from Baskin Robbins. So yummy!!!
Ellie
I like chocolate, and I like fudge, so I’m sure that is great, LOL.
Tanja
I will allow us to splurge summer picnics… we buy bread from the bakery, have fruits and berries fresh from the farmers market, buy a bit expensive juices or smoothies instead of making it on our own.
My favorite ice cream flavor is very popular here in Finland. It is called Tiger and it is vanilla ice cream with orange marmelade stripes. (And yes I have always thought why is it tiger as its white and orange colors! Dont have answer to that!) LOL 🙂
Ellie
Sounds like a delicious splurge! I also love fresh products from the farmers market. It’s strawberry season here, but we haven’t had time to pick any. I really need to find me some fresh strawberries before the season ends, though!
Ellie
Alison
I’m from Australia and my favourite ice cream is mint choc chip, but I also love yoghurt and custard, just dairy in general 😜 on the subject of your nappies (diapers) don’t you guys have reusable ones you just replace the liner and wash them also good for the environment
Ellie
Hi Alison,
We do have reusable diapers/nappies here, and I’ve thought about looking into them. Just haven’t gotten around to it, and disposables are definitely easier, LOL. What part of Australia do you live in? I have always wanted to visit.
Ellie
Ellyn
I probably splurge on food as well; try to buy plenty of fruit/vegetables and organic food when possible. To me it’s worth it!
My favorite ice cream flavor is soft serve vanilla or cinnamon, which can be hard to find but it’s amazing! Sometimes smaller shops will have it in the fall 🙂
Ellie
Fruits and veggies are definitely worth the splurge. I’ve never tried (or heard of) cinnamon ice cream. Sounds like it could be good though!
Candi
Our fave or one of our faves (depends on the mood ya know, it always changes-lol) has always been black raspberry ice cream from Turkey Hill. Eat it together with vanilla ice cream sometime. Ummmmmmm. Wish I could find a black raspberry sherbet or Italian ice to buy (guess I’ll have to look into seeing if I could make this in my ice cream maker-so hard I know! Inconvenient!) as this is what goes good with creamy vanilla ice cream. I love stopping at those Italian ice/ice cream places as I just LOVE a douetto. A flavor of ice and ice cream twisted together in a cup. Ummmmmm
Ellie
Black raspberry sounds like it would be very good!
Alice
Publix icecream is the best! A must try! My favorite is Heavenly Hash. 🙂
Ellie
I’ve seen Publix ice cream, and I’ll be honest that it has very appealing packaging. Has made me want to try it, but I haven’t done it yet. Maybe now I will. 🙂
Ellie
Sarah
I like Whitey’s Chocolate chip or peppermint ice cream .
