Over the weekend, we posted a video explaining Mr. Handsome’s idea of a shared cell phone. Many of you responded, so we thought we would do a wrap-up video (embedded below) revealing the results of the poll. Mr. Handsome also has another “interesting” idea for saving money.
I want to apologize in advance for the terrible lighting. We filmed the other video outdoors, but this one was filmed inside at night. (Don’t worry, it has nothing to do with the quality of the phone…LOL.) If you are unable to watch the video, please let me know what type of device you are using so I can look into fixing the issue. Thanks!

Like I said, could 1 person ride their bike to work???

From my apple laptop not only I can’t see the video, but there’s literally no indication that a video exists. If you hadn’t mentioned it I actually wouldn’t have known there was one.
With my smartphone, on the other hand, I can see it.

Hi there,
I have spoken to a tech person, and she explained why the videos are working for the majority of my readers but not working for a few. It is likely due to an ad blocker that is installed on your computer. Just switch it off, and you’ll be able to watch the video. Hope this helps!

Ellie, I don’t see any videos that you have posted. I’m using a personal laptop computer with Windows 10, so it should show up. But there are no links are anything appearing. Just thought I would let you know!
Ellie
Hi Tammy,
Thanks for the feedback. I just spoke with a tech person, and she predicts that the few readers who cannot view the videos are using ad blockers. Just switch it off, and you’ll be able to watch the videos. 🙂

It was fun to get your conclusion. Thank you for the answer you arrived at. Mr Handsome must help you save money on medicine!

The sound is too weak.

Can the dentist not buy toothbrushes in bulk and get a discount? That should save some $$
Ellie
That’s a good question, Johnna. I’ve looked into it, and it’s not as simple as you would think, but I do need to spend some more time researching it.

It might be related to those who are using Ad Blocker. Your video does not appear when I have ad blocking software enabled (and appears when ad blocker is disabled). FYI.

I’m one of those who can’t see the video and I do have an adblock, you might be right! Although I would encourage Ellie to find a solution, because as much as I enjoy her videos I wouldn’t give up my adblock for it. It’s a much helpful protection!
Ellie
Thanks for the tip! I spoke with a tech person, and she said the very same thing. I would encourage the few readers who are unable to watch the videos to turn any ad blockers off and then give the videos a try. During my 9 years of blogging, I have tried various methods of uploading videos, and the method I currently use works best and provides the best quality.

Thanks for the follow up. Yay that you’re keeping the two phones!
The sound was fine on my phone. I may have turned the volume up slightly more than usual but it wasn’t muffled or difficult to understand. I’m impressed by the your phone’s video picture quality.
Ellie
Thanks, JL. I’m glad, too. LOL. And thanks for the feedback.

Good for you, you definitely made the right choice!
Living frugally is great (and essential for most of us), but I think that if it becomes unnecessarily stressful it’s just not worthy.
Also, honestly with you working with blogs, in the media world, we could say, having a smartphone could actually be necessary on occasions, you never know.

Your sense of humor is great! (Deadpan humor is the best kind of humor.)
It took some time for the video box to show up, but it did, and I was able to watch it (and hear it) no problem. I’m using Chrome on a laptop
Ellie
LOL, thanks, Alicia. I’m glad it showed up for you.

I think I have figured out your new website. It is beautifully laid out and the pictures are gorgeous. Thanks for all the time and effort. Blessings, Barb

Hi Ellie,
I am sidetracking a little with this question. Just wondering if your husband had done a toothpaste commercial (for Crest I think) a while back. It was a dentist in the commercial I believe and it sure looked like him!
Ellie
Nope, he’s never been in a commercial. How funny that you saw someone who looks like him! Maybe it’s his long-lost twin.

Hi Ellie, How about a blog about your Canadian roots? Your followers here in Canada would much appreciate that!
Ellie
Great idea! I’m very proud of my heritage. What particularly would you like to know about my Canadian roots?
Ellie

Hi Ellie, How about what part of Canada you are from, and your memories of holidays and special events here? What recommendations you might have for sight seeing in your Canadian hometown, your go-to restaurants when you visit, etc.? Were/are you a fan of Tim Hortons?

I worked for 2 different cell phone companies so I learned the ropes that they don’t want to share! Here are my tips to get the best service for the cheapest price:
– Never use Verizon or AT&T. Just use a smaller provider that uses their networks.
– Always choose a program that lets you bring your own phone, and buy an unlocked, refurbished one on Ebay or Bestbuy. Beware of the $1 phones that come with contracts. They will lock you in, or charge you more in other ways. Best to be free and able to switch providers at any time if you find a better rate.
– Android phones have become equal or even better than iPhones. Don’t overpay for the brand and switch to Android. There are top-of-the-line phones priced around $200, and it’s very practical to have all your docs and pictures accessible from your gmail account.
– If you need more than one line, get a family plan. My husband and I currently have the plan from H20 that’s $25 per line with 4GB data, and includes international call credit (which is great because I have family abroad). There are plenty of similarly priced plans around if you search for them.
– Considering my phones last about 2 years and cost around $200, that’s $8/month. So my total monthly bill is $33 for an excellent phone and service.

I am curious how long you lived in Canada, why you moved, if you come back for family visits, if you are an American citizen. Many things like that which are probably not our business.
Betty
The video was hilarious and I really enjoyed it. lol Like you two my husband and I look for ways to save money. I love your new format on your blog. It’s so much easier and also more fun to read it and also the videos are great too.
Ellie
I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed it, Betty. And glad you like the new website. Saving money is always a good thing! Does your husband have a dry sense of humor like mine?
