Have you ever tried Shawarma? It’s a Middle Eastern dish made with thinly sliced meat (usually chicken, lamb, or beef) that is deliciously seasoned. My family ate it multiple times when I was growing up because we had close friends who were from the Middle East.
Mr. Handsome and I recently visited Assembly Food Hall in the new 5th + Broadway building and were pleased to find a unique restaurant that quickly become a favorite, Istanbul Shawarma. Located in the heart of Downtown Nashville, across the street from both the Ryman Auditorium and Bridgestone Arena (home of Nashville’s NHL team, the Predators), the Assembly Food Hall offers a variety of delicious foods from Nashville and beyond. I was thrilled that my husband wanted to venture outside his comfort zone and try Shawarma. And he liked it!

Is there a gravy n the beef on your plate? What are the sides? It all looks so good. Isn’t it fun to find a restaurant that serves your childhood favorites?
Ellie
The stuff that looks like gravy is hummus. It’s served with red cabbage and feta cheese. It was delicious!

Never heard of Shawarma. Is it hot and spicy?
Ellie
No it wasn’t hot and spicy. 🙂

It would help if you describe the seasonings used for the meat, plus describe everything else shown in the picture, and how it was prepared.

I’m not familiar with the process of cooking it, I just enjoy eating it. I would imagine the spices would vary. This Shawarma was served with cabbage and hummus. The restaurant doesn’t list what’s in their sauce. If you know more about Shawarma than I do, feel free to share your knowledge. 🙂

You can buy that from street carts on many streets of New York City. If you like to gamble with street cart food, that is.
