Summer went by in a snap–I blinked, and now it’s almost over! Are you feeling the same way? Better whip up one last smoothie before the warm weather goes into hibernation. (Be sure to check out my Homemade Mocha Smoothie tutorial, as well.)
Peach season has come to an end in most regions, so pull out those frozen peaches (fresh-picked or store-bought), and savor the fleeting flavors of summertime with a simple peach smoothie.
Simple Peach Smoothie
Ingredients
- 2 cups frozen peaches (skinned, sliced, and cores removed)
- 1⅓ cup peach juice
- ⅓ cup plain nonfat yogurt (optional)
Instructions
-
Blend all ingredients in a blender and serve
Recipe Notes
*Peach juice intensifies the flavor, but feel free to substitute apple juice or another mild-flavored juice that you have on hand. (I don't recommend orange juice, as it will cover up the peach flavor.) Milk is also an option. (That's what my husband prefers.)
**Although yogurt makes the smoothie more filling and satisfying, eliminate it if you desire a crisp, clean flavor that truly quenches your thirst.

Sounds really delicious and yes I agree, I too blinked and where did summer go? Although Sept and Oct are pretty decent temps too!

Yes, that's true. 🙂

Not a negative comment, but a question. I don't understand the world's obsession with smoothies. Is it really more satisfying to suck something through a straw than it is to, say, eat a peach and some yogurt? 'Cuz I would never think to throw either of those in a blender first. I'd just eat them. Can someone explain what's so special about smoothies? I've never had one and don't intend to, as long as my teeth hold out…and Mr. Handsome's colleagues make sure of that. 🙂 Now I could see enticing children to eat more fruits or vegetables this way, but we're adults (with teeth). Do we have to drink our food?

I think it's drawing, because it's so cold and refreshing. Also, it not like a snack where you eat it all at once, you sip on it throughout a time period.

So if you like ice cream you will like a smoothie. It is simply a healthy kinda way to eat something close to ice cream. Yes its refreshing and cool on hot days. Just like drinking a shake but healthier!

I like smoothies, but I can see your point. Your comment made me laugh:-) Thank you!

My friend was pregnant and craved smoothies. To me, it looked like you took all your food scraps and put them in a blender. She even had stuff like kale and spinach in there. Made me feel nauseated just to look at it. Reminded me of a can of Campbell's pea soup. I don't know how she stomached it with pregnancy hormones going on! To each her own. I'd rather eat Haagen-Daz or Ben & Jerry's, and leave the salad for the salad bowl, not the blender.

That's a good question! Lol. I agree with the other commenters. I think it's because it's refreshing and similar to ice cream, but healthier. Speaking of yogurt, I've heard of people making their own frozen yogurt. Have any of y'all ever tried that?

Seems like it is a food craze. What did we do before smoothies? Milkshakes & that was it. Ate fruit. If you wanted to be really daring, you put a banana in the freezer.

LOL! True, if you just eat the same amount of fruit it would probably be the same, but, besides being fresh and more of a treat, sometimes it's also practical to have a bottle or a glass that you can carry around and drink while doing stuff around the house, instead of a plate of fruit, which takes more time to eat and limits the possibility to do other things at he same time.
Also, in my case sometimes I add in my smoothies fruits that I don't particularly like but that I know are very good for my health. All blended together I find it more pleasant.
Sometimes I need to go out but also want to eat my fruits and don't have so much time to do both calmly, so I make a smoothie, put it in a clean water bottle and carry it out with me.
So to answer your question I think it's because it's tasty and because of circumstances.

Sweet! (No pun intended.)
Yeah, the summer MONTHS went by quickly; but when you live here in Ecuador, you could claim it's "summer" all year long. Don't worry, you get used to it after living here after 10 years.
Thanks for the AMAZINGLY AWESOME posts that keep us updated with your inspiring life.
Cheers all the way from Ecuador!

I'm touched to hear that my life is inspiring. I always enjoy reading your comments, James. 🙂

You're welcome, Ellie. It's your daily blog posts that are able to put a smile on my face after a long hard day of teaching.
I've finally been able to work on the Letter, and I hope to send it to you soon!

Yum! You could also use coconut water instead of juice. Coconut water is super refreshing and works great in a smoothie, especially if you're not into plain coconut water.

That's a great idea, Robyn!
Have a wonderful weekend.

I can't wait to start having smoothies again. We're just emerging out if winter here in Australia. And am very ready for some warmer weather.

Random question…what are the average temps like in Australia in winter?

Hi Ellie 🙂
I live in Melbourne which is a dry cool climate, so in winter it averages a high of about 13 degrees celsius, and in summer it fluctuates between 25 and up to 40 degrees celsius on particularly hot days. Because of the nearby mountain range, our temperatures fluctuate up and down, we're known for having four seasons in one day! Not sure what those temps are in Fahrenheit. I used to live in Darwin, which is at the top of the country and it is tropical weather there, much like Florida. 🙂

My go-to smoothie this summer has been frozen peaches, a 1/3 or 1/4 an avocado, frozen berries, 1/2 banana, a few frozen dates, and a chunk of frozen ginger (with milk or juice). Delish and refreshing.
To the question of why do we have smoothies, rather then say, milkshakes? For me, it's a healthier alternative. I also am a bit bad at getting my daily fruit/veg requirement in, so I like the convenience to just blend up all that fruit and drink it at once. As an athlete I need protein, so post workout I'll put in some protein powder, or if I don't have that on hand, some chocolate milk.

I'm a big smoothie fan. That recipe sounds good! I have had to use less fruit in my mixes to cut the sugar. I used to make several ounces at a time.
