Those who have been following Nashville Wife for a while have heard me mention my oldest sister-in-law, Anne, and how she likes to put decorations up for every holiday. Last year, I posted pictures of her Valentine’s Day and fall decor.Yesterday afternoon, Anne sent me photos of her St. Patrick’s Day decor. (She isn’t Irish and doesn’t celebrate St. Paddy’s Day, but she still enjoys decking her house out in green shamrocks.)
She has a few small chalkboards that she writes cute sayings on for each holiday, and she bought me one for Christmas. I hadn’t used it yet, but when she sent the pictures, I was inspired. The first three photos are from Anne, and the last one is mine.

Aw how sweet! We saw some cute St. Patrick decorations at Dollar Tree a couple of days ago so I may get some for our front door.

That would be cute, Regina! I've been wanting to get a wreath or another decoration (something that can stay up most of the year) for our front door for a while now, but I haven't found one I like. Do you put decorations on your door for other holidays?

I love seeing how others decorate for the holidays! I'm a tiny bit Irish (but it's several greats back, so…) and I just love all the green and shamrocks of St. Patrick's day! The fact that it's close to my birthday probably doesn't hurt either 🙂
And I love how you both decorated your chalkboards! So cute!

Thanks, Alicia! 🙂

Very cute!! Love your sign Ellie!! I only decorate for Christmas which we really have fun doing and enjoy for the season. I do love seeing how other people decorate for the different Holidays and seasons.

Thanks, Shela. I'll have to admit that the chalkboard is one of my first non-Christmas decorations. I just don't usually think of it. Lol.

Today is Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of lent. Do you do anything in the period of lent to grow closer to the lord Jesus?

Hi there,
We don't celebrate Lent, but a few years ago I did cut out sweets. I'm curious what denomination you are? Do you give things up for Lent, or do you celebrate in another way?

I don't buy any of those holiday decorations you'd see in the craft stores. I can't…I think they make my house look like a kindergarten. See how the first 2 responses both mentioned "cute"? I don't want cute. Doesn't match the Danish Modern decor. If I want to be reminded of the season, I look out the window. Nature does some spectacular decorating starting this time of year!

I found a cute Pinterest project a couple years ago that involved simple foam shamrocks from the dollar store. I bought one pack of plain ones and one pack of sparkly ones, used a cardboard ring as the base, glued them on in a circle, and added a ribbon. It hangs on my front door and it cost me $2. I don't really celebrate and my only other St. Patty's decor I received as a shower gift 14 years ago (someone gave me a "starter pack" of decorations for a handful of holidays–great idea!). I have a little ceramic flower pot and a shamrock cookie cutter that I put out on the top of my stove. So, for that project I definitely wanted to keep it simple and cheap!

Ellie you know what would be cute in front of the last board about the pot of gold? you could put a little dish of those choc coins wrapped in gold paper! 🙂

Yes! That would be very cute! And I do love chocolate! 🙂

Anne decorations are so beautiful. Ellie your chalkboard is cute too.
The chalkboards remainds me of Little House on the Prairie were they had to use them in school.

Thank you. That's very true! I was a huge fan of Little House on the Prairie as a child. Were you? I'm pretty sure I watched every episode at least twice, and I look forward to showing them to our children someday.

Yes I was a hugh fan if Little House on the Prairie. I've seen every episode too. I watch it ever afternoon on INSP network at 4pm. Right after the Waltons.

I only watched the Waltons a few times, but it was a cute show. Did you read all the Little House books?

I have a question! What is St. Patrick's Day about? I'm from germany and we & don't have it here! Thank you and love greetings

St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. Similarly, St. George is the patron saint of England, St. David of Wales and St. Andrew of Scotland.

I read that St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on the day St. Patrick died. I believe it started as a religious holiday, but now it has mostly just turned into a fun, cultural holiday. We don't usually do anything to celebrate, but it is fun to put up cute decorations. St. Patrick's Day decorations are green, which works well because green is also a color of spring.

That looks great Ellie but if you are going to use your chalkboard a lot you might want to get some liquid chalk pens. They give you that look you often see on cafe menu chalk boards.

That's a wonderful idea! Thank you. 🙂

I think holiday decorations are tacky. I like my furnishings and decor to be streamlined. Our family has been going through a phase of minimalism, doing without things we don't need. It's honestly made our house less chaotic and since we plan to move in a few months, just makes sense. Clutter makes me feel frazzled
