Have you ever visited Acadia National Park along the Maine Coast? Last fall, after exploring Boston and the upper and lower sections of Old Quebec City and before doing our Maine lighthouse tour, Mr. Handsome and I made a quick stop at Acadia National Park. We arrived just as the sun was beginning to set.
We were concerned that it might be too late to drive up to the top of Cadillac Mountain, but there were still a decent amount of tourists headed for the narrow mountain road, so we decided to take the chance. It was 40 degrees and windy, and the weather only felt colder on the mountain. We stopped at a couple quick lookout points before reaching the top.
When we arrived at the peak and walked out to the iconic photo spot, we were blown away (figuratively and almost literally). The view was absolutely spectacular, and the lighting was just perfect.
Cadillac Mountain used to be known as Green Mountain and was renamed Cadillac Mountain in 1918 to honor the 17th century French explorer who at one point had ownership of the mountain and surrounding area. As the highest point along the Eastern Seaboard, Cadillac Mountain (elevation of 1,530 feet or 466 meters) sees the sunrise before any other place in the United States from early October through early March.

As a couple you probably needed that glorious mountain top moment, because you had a low, low, dark valley ahead of you. Plus the pictures keep as a great lesson! Really inspiring, thank-you for sharing!

Beautiful! What time of year did you go?
Ellie
Early October 🙂

Beautiful pictures, Ellie. We haven’t made it it up to Acadia yet but look forward to visiting one day. We will be spending some time at Booth Bay Harbor, Maine this summer.
Ellie
You’ll have a great trip! Maine is beautiful. Is Booth Bay Harbor near Acadia?

It is about 2 1/2 hours South of Acadia. I considered going up to Acadia too but there won’t be time on this trip. We live in NH so we will plan to go another time.

I was trying to figure out if that was just rocks or actually a town down below in the pic behind you and mr H ?
Ellie
It’s a little town. It really does look like rocks though, doesn’t it?

Lol ok, I was trying to figure out the height of where you were standing…if it was a town it was up higher than what I thought than if it was just some big rocks. Anyway thanks. Pretty place!

One of my favourite national parks. My husband and I love Bar Harbor (and Boston and Quebec City so you basically took the perfect trip in our books). When you have a chance, come explore our neck of the woods – New Brunswick and Nova Scotia
Ellie
We would love to visit New Brunswick and Nova Scotia sometime! Those are pretty much the only Canadian provinces I haven’t yet been to.
