Footprint Butterfly Flower Pot Mother’s Day is less than one week away. Are you looking for a last-minute craft for your kiddos? If you are, you’ll love this post!
We don’t have any children (yet), but I helped my sister-in-law Anne with her Mother’s Day craft. (It’s supposed to be from her 21-month-old daughter Ana, but of course we ended up doing all the work.)
Anne found the idea on Pinterest, and I think it’s quite adorable. Kudos if you can get your child to sit still long enough to put paint on the bottoms of their feet and press their feet onto the flower pot. My niece wouldn’t have any part of that, so we made paper cutouts of Ana’s feet.
We positioned the cutouts on the flower pot and lightly traced them with a pencil. Then we used paint brushes and acrylic paint to fill them in and draw the butterfly’s body.
Once we finished the first flower pot, we spent a few moments admiring our handiwork and proceeded to make seven more. (In addition to her mom, Ana has two grandmothers, three great-grandmothers, and two great-great-grandmothers.)
The flower pots we used were seven inches tall, but you will want to measure your child’s feet before going to the store. This craft works for children of any age! (Click here to see the “grownup craft” that my husband made for our moms.)
I hope that paint holds up, or that you use the pot for decorative purposes only. It's very hard to get anything to stick to a porous flower pot. When you water, that outside surface will get damp from within, and then the fun begins.

Cute, but I think after awhile your world is going to hold you like an emotional cage. Someday everything you look at will have a sentiment attached to it and you will not want to throw away anything because of the love attached (and if you don't really care you will think tossing something will hurt someone else.) I already know from experience and have been termed a hoarder and had my stuff hold me from moving on from it while everyone else moved on. So I have mixed feelings about cute sentimental craft projects.
You make a good point. I'm sure my sister-in-law won't be making sentimental gifts for every holiday for as long as she has kids. I think she's just enjoying being a new mom. 🙂

Oh fun!! What I did for a foot print craft (with my 8 month old charge- I'm a nanny) was put paint onto a new sponge to act as a stamping pad, then press his foot into the sponge then on to the item, in this case a ceramic plate. Makes it less messy and the print will show up with more detail!

The idea of planting something in the pot, 'cause it is spring, makes that a useful gift. Maybe if a person started scrap book albums, then if children did art on paper, or printed out pictures, from digitals taken, of crafts and gifts; then all that stuff could go into the book, for a keep sake, and things could perish naturally.
Creating a book of a child's artwork is a great idea. I think I'm going to steal that for my future kids.

You could create an album of a photograph for each and every painting Mr Handsome does and note the date it was done and the title, maybe you have that already. Did you look at Akiane Kramarik's website? Did he look at it? She started as a child prodigy.

I think you two look great without make-up! I only wear make-up on special occasions. The other days my look is natural. Have you done the "How Cruel is My Make-Up Bag?" challenge from YouTube? It's too see if your make-up is cruelty-free. The free app from the Beagle Freedom Project can tell you with an easy scan of the item. You should do it and write a blog post about it!

She still has two great-great grandmothers??!!! Wow, those must be one healthy family.
I know, right? She has one great-great grandmother on each side of the family. I have met them both, and they are both doing well, although they are definitely slowing down. The one on our side of the family turned 100 last fall.
