A couple weekends ago, I was invited to a friend’s baby shower. I checked her gift registry, but most of the items have been purchased, so I decided to do a homemade gift. After thinking it over, I came up with the perfect idea: a no-sew fleece blanket!I visited the fabric store and bought an adorable animal print pattern for one side of the blanket and a plain brown piece of fleece for the other side.
I made my blanket 1-1/2 yards, but looking back, I would have preferred it to be only one yard, as that would have been the perfect size for a car seat or stroller cover.
The general rule of thumb for no-sew blankets is…
Infant: 1 yard
Toddler/child: 1.5 yards
Teen/adult: 2 yards (or 2-1/2 for taller adults)
What do you think of the finished product? (The feet belong to Lena, my 13-year-old sister-in-law). The tutorial video that I followed is below.

Aww. . . Cute! Those are fun to make :). Don't worry about having made it too long, she can use it to let him play on the floor and he'll have plenty of room to roll around. Plus, he'll be able to use it a bit longer:).

That's a good point, Jemma! Thanks! 🙂

These blankets are fun to make! Do you think you will make more and do you think you will make it bigger?

Hi Anna Ruth,
I'm sure I'll make more in the future (maybe for other baby showers). I have a 2-yard one that I made several years ago.

Very nice. But I would be afraid the strings would come undone and they baby would get it in the mouth. Or around their neck.

So adorable!! You did a great job Ellie. Who knows it may end up being the little ones favorite blanket. I am sure your friend apperciates your thoughtfulness.

Thank you, Shela! I would be so thrilled if it ended up being the baby's favorite blanket. 🙂

It's beautiful – I love the pattern! These are great gifts. My daughter and I helped out at a school function where we made and donated fleece blankets like these. They are fun and very easy to do!

Thank you! Yes, they are super easy to make. The tying takes a bit of time, but it's still easy.
Blessings,

Nice blanket-love the print-You should have had your niece hold the blanket the other way with the animals going across. I have been wanting to make one of these-thanks for the tutorial.

LOL, that's true. 🙂

That's not her niece that's her sister-in law.

I would be afraid the strings might get in the kids mouth and they choke on it.
My friend got one for her baby and the strings got caught in the kids mouth and he choked.

Those "taggie" blankets and toys people are making for babies are another potential hazard – not for choking, but for little fingers to get twisted in. Every time I see someone making one, I remind them to sew the tags shut so they're just a short flap, not a loop. But you still see the projects made with loops all over the Internet. I sell what I sew, and I refuse to sell anything for a baby or small child because of potential liability.

I was invited to a double baby shower recently and had been racking my brain trying to figure out what to get or make for them. I am a regular reader so naturally I was on the blog. I saw this post and I immediately started searching for the PERFECT patterns. I got mine at Walmart.com, I used the pink with owls, and for the other side, I used pink, grey, and white chevron. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly it came together! It looks adorable (I finished it yesterday) and I can't wait to take it to the shower. Thank You! 🙂 God bless!
