I have lots of favorite films and had a hard time deciding on just three. Facing the Giants is a flick that all ages can enjoy, but The Blind Side and The Lord of the Rings are not suitable for young children. I had never seen The Lord of the Rings
until Mr. Handsome and I started working our way through the trilogy a
few months ago, but they are some of Mr. Handsome’s favorite movies, and I have really enjoyed them.

Hi Ellie, I've noticed you starting to promote certain products and websites on your blog recently. Are these sponsored posts? This one in particular reads like an advertisement. I don't remember seeing disclosures on your blog before, but I'm pretty sure bloggers are required to disclose when they're compensated to blog about a company or product.

Hi there,
This is not a sponsored post, just a fun discussion post with tips on how to find wholesome movies.

Movies on sunday morning are the best time for me. I wake up really early (just habit from going to work each day) make breakfast and tea for myself (hubs sleeps in). I snuggle with a blanket and my pup and watch whatever cheesy hallmark movie i can find. pure bliss

I also enjoy cheesy Hallmark movies! Mr. Handsome isn't a fan of them though. Lol.

Mary Poppins is a totally messed-up movie, with themes that can scare children. Loveless, cold father; neighbor firing a cannon; scary old banker; depressing woman feeding the birds alone; almost falling off rooftops/falling down chimneys; and so on. Strange stuff.

I love, love, LOVE, all those movies! Especially Hidden Figures.

Hidden Figures was wonderful. Same with the original Sound of Music. Don't believe I've seen the full Mary Poppins movie, or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I'm curious what "fuzzy rope" is?

Movie Favorites: Uncle Buck ( I crack up hard every time), Radio ( Cuba Gooding Jr did a splendid job in this true story), and the original Home Alone, a great cozy holiday movie. Snacks would be ice water or Sprite, home made popcorn with butter, and a cozy blanket. And it would be more fun watching any movie with my dear son!

I loved the Home Alone movies as a kid. If you Google "Home Alone House," you can see then-and-now photos of the house, located in the Chicago suburbs. It sold for $1.5 million dollars a few years ago!

The busier I get the less time I want to spend watching the infinite number of movies available. But I used to spend a lot of time watching television and movies. One religious post put it in the category of vices….every bottle comes to an end, every movie comes to an end, then what? I guess this kind of stuff as sweet as it is does not fill the void in our lives if that is what we are really doing. I am not saying that about you and your Mr H though. You seem to know what you are doing. Thanks for sharing.

When I watched a lot of TV my favorites were home construction/renovation shows, true crime stories, old black and white movies, and English upstairs downstairs type shows. I was marathon watcher. And later on the computer oooh there was lots a good topics…. but I've been so convicted that I can't keep doing that no matter how much is available.

I enjoyed the classics "Holiday Inn" and "The Belle of New York" last winter. They might not be everyone's family choice but they were fun and I recommend them. My local library had them.

Easter Parade is one of the good classics too.
'On the avenue…'!

Someone else recommended Holiday Inn to me recently. Guess it must be good.

It's corny 1940's entertainment, but yeah, it's an OK Christmas movie. Heavy on the scenes that feature Crosby-Astaire talents. They tried to revive it as a Broadway musical last year, and it lasted all of 3 months. It did get a Tony nomination for choreography, though.

"Easter Parade" film trivia: Liza Minnelli, Judy Garland's daughter, appears as a baby in the final crowd scene along the avenue.

Sounds like a cozy date night, Eileen! The Sound of Music is wonderful. Haven't seen the others, though.

Yes to The Sound of Music, supreme pizza, a soft blanket, and dark chocolate! Haven't seen the other movies, but I'll have to add them to my list.

Before you watch the Ryan/Hanks version of "You've Got Mail," watch the original 1940 version called "The Shop Around the Corner," with Jimmy Stewart, Margaret Sullivan, and "The Wizard of Oz" himself, Frank Morgan. (Actually, there was a play version before that, in Hungary.) TCM often airs that movie around Christmas.

An Avonlea Christmas, The Inheritance, Little Women…

I love Pure Flix!
