A few years ago, we posted about the bachelor party that Mr. Handsome planned for his youngest brother. His other brother recently got married, and Mr. Handsome helped plan that bachelor party, as well.
Bachelor parties get a bad rap because some people engage in inappropriate behavior at them, but if done well, bachelor parties can be a great way for men to bond and strengthen their friendships.
Of course any time men get together, the highlight is food. Mr. Handsome chose pulled pork for the occasion. I bought fifteen pounds of pork shoulder on sale at Kroger, and he spent an entire day smoking it. He used hickory wood from our yard to add flavor to the meat. He was a bit on edge because the smoker, which was a gift from a friend who was upgrading, is new to him, and he didn’t want to ruin the party by messing up the main dish.
Thankfully, the pulled pork turned out delicious (I had it for dinner the night before), and the men loved it. Several of them said they thought Mr. Handsome should start a BBQ restaurant.
Mr. Handsome and the guys had a great weekend. They ate BBQ and then shot clay targets at a local shooting range. Later, they camped out at a remote location with incredible scenery. My thoughtful brother-in-law carried in all the ingredients for campfire spaghetti for dinner and pancakes for breakfast.
It always makes my heart happy to see my husband enjoy fun and fellowship with other guys who desire to live for the Lord. He said they had some really deep conversations around the campfire about marriage and faith.
Have you heard of any good bachelor (or bachelorette) party ideas?

My husband’s twin brother planned his. The guys went bowling and then a close friend hosted a BBQ. I think my husband very much enjoyed having that special time with the important men in his life just before we got married. I had a special luncheon at a tea room with my bridesmaids and the ladies in the family. It was so lovely!!

Glad all the guys had a great time !
Just asking What nickname did you give your newest addition ??
Ellie
Haven’t decided yet, but we really need to!

You know, guys (and gals) who don’t desire to live for the Lord can be just as wonderful and can have just as deep and meaningful conversations about marriage and life. The way you put it, it sounds as if you were trying to make those guys superior to others because of one attribute.
Ellie
I’m sorry if that’s how it came across. That was not the intention. There is something special about gathering with people who have things in common with us, as I’m sure you would agree, but we could certainly have deep and meaningful conversations with someone who is not a Christian. There is definitely nothing superior about Christians. In fact, Christians should seek to serve and honor others above themselves. The gift of salvation is a free gift. Christianity is not a closed group, but one that is open to anyone who wishes to be part of it.

How can you say “Christianity is not a closed group” when many Christian churches won’t accept certain people as members, elders, or clergy, and say so right in their mission statements? I’d like to hear your explanation of what you said.

My daughter attended a bachelorette party where they went to a local ceramics place and all painted a bowl or plate, then went bowling and finished with a fun dinner. Good, clean fun.

What a blessing to have a godly husband who can cook!

Yes, because it wouldn’t be a blessing to have a Godly husband that can’t cook?? lol

Posts like this are why a lot of people don’t like Christians. You act like you are so much better than everyone else just because you don’t drink or go to clubs. Believing in God and being family-oriented does not make you superior to others. There is nothing wrong with going out and having fun with your friends or drinking small amounts of alcohol (as long as you don’t drive afterward). There’s drinking and dancing in the Bible! Jesus made wine!
Ellie
I don’t believe I have ever stated that we don’t drink. And we LOVE to dance. My favorite line dancing place in downtown Nashville was damaged in the bombing, but I believe it’s open again. It’s hard to make it there with kids, but I hope we can go sometime this year.

I find it so ironic that non-Christians say that we Christians think we are better then them because we love God and family and others yet you will never hear a Christian accusing a non-Christian of thinking they were better then us because they drink and go clubbing etc. Maybe the problem isn’t the Christian and their life style but rather the non-Christian feeling convictions because of their own life style. God welcomes everyone to know and love Him so you are sure welcome to join us.

@10:14 Maybe that’s because non-Christians don’t make a big thing about their lifestyle being “better” than a Christian’s, the way Christians like to make their lifestyle sound more wholesome and superior.

I’m a Christian and yes, I do drink alcohol (in moderation, responsibly of course!) and YES! I LOVE TO DANCE! I’ll be the first one on the dance floor at any wedding! But for my bachelorette party, I will say, I do prefer the idea of something smaller and more intimate. Maybe a spa day? A beach day? Simply because I want the chance to bond with my friends and family, and moreover, I simply prefer and find joy in activities like getting my nails done, relaxing on the beach, even going to a painting place. It’s just who I am and what I love to do! Religion has nothing to do with it 🙂

I know a man who misbehaved at his bachelor party. His wife to be found out and he slept on the couch on his honeymoon. Twenty years later, they are happily married with a family living for the lord.

I know a man who spied on his wife-to-be when she went out with the girls before the wedding. Forty years later, they are not happily married.

Great post Ellie! The comments sure got away huh?
Firstly why is someone reading this blog (written by someone who is obviously a Christian that posts about other large Christian families (Bates & Duggars)).
Life without God would be pointless. Being a Christian and knowing God in itself is a HUGE blessing. We like to talk about how great it is to know Him with hopes that others can share in our joy!
I welcome any of you to my church any day. I don’t know many religions who aren’t willing to welcome anyone who walks through their doors.
I planned my sisters bachelorette party and we went to a place here in Texas called New Braunfels and spent the day floating down the river. It was a ton of fun! For my “party” my sisters, mom and myself had a spa day!
