Several months ago, someone paid our way to attend a conference on the Alabama Coast, so we were able to enjoy three days and three nights at the beach. We had only ever been to the beaches along the Florida panhandle, so this was a new experience.
It was the end of the season and not warm enough to swim in the ocean. Little Buddy wanted to put his feet in the ocean to feel the waves, but I gladly gave Mr. Handsome the job of watching him so I didn’t have to get wet and cold.
The kids played in the shallow end of the pool but didn’t get in all the way. They really enjoyed digging in the sand at the beach. Being pregnant and still feeling sick (the nausea has continued throughout my pregnancy), I had a wonderfully relaxing time just sitting on a towel watching them play. There weren’t many people around, probably because it was so chilly, so the trip was very relaxed.
Have you ever been to the Alabama Coast?

I have never been there! But any vacation sounds so nice regardless of the season/weather at this point in the winter lol. Just to get away and have your husband 24/7 for a few days to help sounds so nice!
Were you sick the whole pregnancy with your boys or do you think it’s bcuz it’s a girl? My girls were always so much worse but this time I have learned what ‘third trimester morning sickness’ is and it’s terrible. I mean it’s not as bad as the first but nothing ever sounds good and everything has a weird aftertaste. It’s been rough 😬
Ellie
It’s strange because I was sick the whole pregnancy with my first son, then the second I felt better about halfway through. Then this pregnancy has been pretty much the whole time. So I’m not sure what the reason is. But I agree with you on the third trimester morning sickness. Mine has gotten worse recently, and I remember that happening last time. You’re also so big that you don’t really feel like eating, but you know you need to get some protein in to feel better.
JenniferH
Yes exactly!
I wonder if it’s cuz it was your first boy and now it’s your first girl? Cuz now that I think of it my first boy was awful then the next two boys not as bad but then when I had my first girl it was really bad sickness all over again. The babies are so worth it but man it’s rough 😳
Ellie
That’s a really interesting though! Almost like your body needs to get used to the difference in hormones.

I am so sorry to hear that you have been sick the whole time. I was far more sick with my girl pregnancy than with my boy pregnancy. Also more evening sickness with my daughter. She is the second child so I always wondered it if was because I could not rest as much. Praying for a smooth delivery for you when the time comes.
Ellie
Thank you, Elizabeth! 🙂

I definitely think being busier contributes to how sick you feel. I had a full time teaching job with my first, a girl, and was way sicker than my second pregnancy with my son. Even though I had my toddler daughter to chase after, during my second pregnancy, I was able to nap during the day, rest a little when I needed it, and take it easier than being a full time kindergarten teacher 🙂
We had thought about moving to Huntsville at one point. How is thee coast of Alabama? Never been that far south.
Ellie
It’s nice! For some reason I still prefer the Florida coast, but Alabama is beautiful, too. The one thing I know about Huntsville is that they have a great space museum. We haven’t been, but it’s on our list.
Ellyn
We haven’t been to the space museum, but my kids love seeing the big rocket (I’m guessing it’s in front of the museum) as you drive on the main highway there. We’ve done the children’s museum and the botanical gardens when we were there and both were wonderful, especially the gardens. Downtown Huntsville is very cute and lots of new development going on.
Ellie
There’s a big rocket along I-65 near Huntsville, although when we drove by last year, there was as sign up saying it was being removed. It’s always a highlight for us, too!

Did you see a big fin on the water?
I bet you looked hard at the water!
Ellie
I didn’t, but we didn’t go swimming. Do you see one?
Anonymous
Hhmm….there’s a dark spot straight up from little buddies head a bit down from the water line. (I like to look around to see if there’s anything out there. I doubt I’d ever swim in those waters.) Looks like a fun day there!

Nice to see the boys. I think this is the first time you showed your second born.
