We recently returned from a weekend trip to Denver, Colorado. Mr. Handsome was the best man for his best friend’s wedding, which was planned about a month in advance. I was nervous about traveling with a toddler with everything that’s going on, but the trip was incredibly smooth, thanks to the wonderful airport and airline employees.
Southwest Airlines is not selling their middle seats, so the three of us were able to sit in our own row and bring the car seat on for free, even though Little Buddy is under age two and didn’t purchase a seat. Having him contained made the trip much simpler. When we flew to New York City last year with little Buddy as a lap child, it was pretty challenging to keep him from squirming. (Did you read our Baby’s 1st Plane Ride post?) This experience was exponentially better than our flight to NYC.
When we disembarked the airplane, we picked up our rental car and headed straight to the rehearsal dinner. There were about 25 people at the rehearsal and 40 at the wedding ceremony and reception. Most were family of the bride and groom. Little Buddy had four other young children to play with, so he was very happy.
The wedding took place in the hills outside Denver. While Mr. Handsome took photos with the wedding party, Little Buddy and I took a driving tour of the area. Rather, Little Buddy had his afternoon nap in his car seat while Mama silently marveled at the beautiful scenery.
I stumbled upon Red Rocks Amphitheater and enjoyed driving around the large park. Later, we visited with Mr. Handsome and were able to walk around. This was my first trip to Colorado, and I hope to have a chance to go back. Both Mr. Handsome and I were surprised at how desert-like Denver was. We stuck around for an extra two days to do some sight-seeing (more photos coming).

How fun! I can’t wait to see more pictures.

Denver is beautiful! I went once when I was 12, but would love to go back for a weekend trip soon. I remember just being in awe of how far the Rockies stretched, no matter where you looked, the mountains were everywhere.
Another favorite was the Garden of the Gods.

I saw the Rockies covered in snow when I visited Colorado approximately 20 years ago. There is nothing I can compare it to. I am so glad that you were able to attend the wedding and enjoy such incredible scenery.

Awesome looking forward to more. Rosealeigh

My husband and I are from the east coast. We were married at a beautiful bed and breakfast, Riversong, in Estes Park ( just outside of Denver). A beautiful place for a long weekend: hiking, daily breakfast, gorgeous rooms….
Ellie
I have heard that Estes Park is beautiful. Would love to visit!

So neat!
Controversial but I would be super interested to see you and Mr.H do a vlog on covid, everyone is making the best decision for their family, but I am curious to see how you make yours.
Your country seems more relaxed in general than mine regarding restrictions.
Ellie
Hi there! What country are you reading from? Glad to have you as a reader! That would be a good idea for a post. I’ll just share briefly. We make decisions based on prayer, information from officials in our area (not the news media), and talking to others (including those who work as medical professionals with COVID patients). We did have a long period of quarantine where we didn’t even spend time with family, but we have been slowly resuming normal life, although we are definitely not back to full activities. A big indicator for us that it’s okay to do certain “normal” activities is that we still only know 2 people who have come down with COVID. One is a nurse and had very mild symptoms. Another had a week of flu-like symptoms. We’ve talked to a lot of friends, and we still have only heard of a handful of friends of friends who have had it. None have come near hospitalization. We are still being very careful though. We aren’t putting our son in any sort of childcare, we wear masks when out in public, etc. Hope that helps. 🙂

You get answers to whether or not you’ll catch covid through prayer? You can tell the future that way and predict disease spread?

How does one get a toddler to keep their mask on?!
Ellie
My son is under 2. The American Academy of Pediatrics warns against having children under 2 wear masks. When he turns 2, we will start trying to get him used to wearing a mask. 🙂

Thanks! The other anonymous responses weren’t me. I’m from Canada.. we’re slowly locking down again it seems. Thanks for taking the time to reply! Appreciate your blog!

My toddler (over 2) and bigger kid (6) are great with their masks! We explained it like socks and shoes – totally good to be barefoot and bare faced at home, but foot and face covers for going into public. Hope that helps!

I hope that you are able to travel there again sometime with your family. We have been to Colorado several times. We live in the Midwest. The most memorable trip for us when our children were school age was to drive around Colorado for two weeks. We stopped at all of the national parks, but the one with most memories for us was the Sand Dunes. Our kids loved playing in them and we were thankful we had our RV because the kids got an outside shower and an inside shower. Mesa Verde and Estes Park are gorgeous too.

My family lived in the Denver area for two years (when I was 10 and 11), and my mom grew up there! It’s a gorgeous place. Looking forward to seeing more of your Colorado photos in a future post!
Ellie
Thanks, Alicia Mae! Neat that you lived in Denver for 2 years. Did you get to do a lot of outdoor things while you were there?
Alicia Mae
We did! Lots of hiking and long walks, skiing, etc. I joke that I used to be much more of an outdoor person when we lived in Colorado than I am now. (It’s oppressively humid where we are now, so being outside isn’t quite so appealing.)
Ellie
Humidity is rough, for sure. I grew up skiing and loved it, but it has been about 6 years.

It’s such a. beautiful area. It’s been about 5 years since the last time I was in Colorado, but I’ve always enjoyed spending time there. I’ve seen a bunch of shows at Red Rocks through the years. It’s one of my all time favorite outdoor venues. I’m glad you got to see it.
I hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip, too.
Ellie
I have heard that the sound quality at Red Rocks is really good. Do you think that’s true?

Travel is not high on my list of things to do. It amazes me how many trips you take. What you share always is interesting to read about.

You can still get covid from planes even though people are distance part apart. I had a friend came back from Florida on a plane and know they got the virus now. Someone on the plane had tested positive
